Job Description of Senior Geologist
i. Assist Project Manager (PM) to monitor the day-to-day works of Consultant and Contractor.
ii. Assist PM to study the general suitability of the site proposed by the Consultant in terms of geological
and geomorphological view point.
iii. Review and report opinions regarding surface/ underground works, roads, bridge sites etc. proposed
by the Consultant or planned by the Company.
iv. Assist PM to determine ground hazards and carryout risk assessment for possible landslides and
assist in studies involving general terrain and geological mapping (of surface and subsurface as
required).
v. Assist PM to collect, analyze and interpret project related geological data.
vi. Use and analyze site information (such as radar images, aerial photographs, reports and geological maps) related to site investigations works submitted by the Consultant.
vii. Review the field work/ site investigations proposed by the Consultant and make recommendations wherever required.
viii. Review and prepare geological reports as per requirement for different projects owned by the Company.
ix. Assist and advise PM on a range of issues related to the quality & suitability of construction material (soil or rock) as well as use of the construction materials.
x. Assist PM to ensure that projects keep to budgets and timescales.
xi. Liaise with construction engineers and geotechnical engineers from the Consultants/ Contractors to
ensure the designed quality of work/investigation.
xii. Inspection of site investigation works carried out by the Consultant and Contractor.
xiii. Ensure safe, practical and economic design is being prepared and proposed by the Consultant.
xiv. Quality assurance of the underground/ surface works.
xv. Geological Mapping in tunnel/ project sites including logging of tunnels.
xvi. Supervision of tunnel construction including excavation, drilling, blasting, mucking and support
works.
xvii. Supervise and monitor the underground/ surface construction work as per the drawing, BOQ and
specification.
xviii. Assist PM / Contract Unit (CU) to prepare the tender/ contract documents and its evaluation for the
procurement of mechanical works, goods and services.
xix. Support PM/ CU to analyze the claims, variations, extension of time etc.
xx. Support PM/ CU to check & verify the Contractor’s payment statements.
xxi. Review the project interface in the implementation schedule submitted by the Consultant and suggest appropriate measures for correction, if required.
xxii. Determination of the possible difficulties that may be encountered by a specific construction method for any particular project.
xxiii. Review drawings, planning & scheduling and technical reports submitted by the Contractor/ Consultant.
xxiv. Assist PM to identify and report delay in project progress.
xxv. Carryout periodic quality checks as required.
xxvi. Ensure “As Built Drawings” are prepared and well documented.
xxvii. Conduct and participate in different levels of project related meetings as per requirement.
xxviii. Assist PM for progress report preparation.
xxix. Ensure reliability of progress report submitted by the Consultant/ Contractor.
xxx. Assist PM to carryout EIA/ IEE, connection agreement, PPA and other regulatory works with Line Agencies.
xxxi. Interact and assist same/other divisions of the organization from time to time as per requirement.
xxxii. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Company.
