Applications Engineer

* Design plant layouts and engineering solutions for the Sales department using 3D software (SolidWorks) and 2D software;

Applications Engineer - Sales and Marketing Duties

* Create 3D layouts of company equipment for sales projects.
* Ensure our Sales designs and layouts are visually appealing, occupy a minimum footprint, follow the Company's design rules, and offer a clear concept to our customers.
* Pick up a Sales enquiry and devise what is needed for the 3D layout. (This can follow with time but we need to reduce the current bottleneck of Sales people having to coordinate all tasks on a project.
* The Applications Engineer should, with time, be able to understand an incoming enquiry and begin the technical tasks, particularly the drawing work, without waiting for instruction from others).
* In time, work alone to configure equipment and systems and set these out in 3D for the Sales department.
* Create a library of 3D, plug-and-play Sales models for all company products. These models are to be compatible with our end-product designs so that our Sales layouts contain accurate sizings and flows but are fast to create.
* Create low-res shells of the Engineering modules making up our standard products. These shells are to be accurate for use by both the Sales and the Engineering department in General Arrangement drawings.
* Produce designs and 3D views for the Company's Marketing tools and OMIs.
* Follow the latest developments in 3D software, and in our sector, and use this knowledge in the Company's design output to improve the Company's strike-rate in sales.

This includes:
* Animating designs to show materials flowing over the system, access areas and maintenance tasks for operators, flybys and 360-degree views, all in minimised file sizes
* Linking our 3D designs to laser site scans to show new 3D designs in existing site locations
* Producing First Person walkthroughs for the customer to control
* Creating a configurator of 3D blocks on our website to allow users to build up a Sales layout with our products for the Company to quote
* Linking 3D layout software to our project programmes in MS Project to show site build phases in 3D against the runtime of the programme in MS Project
* Find other such combinations and possibilities to make our Sales designs inspiring to our customers, stakeholders, suppliers and those following us in the media.

* Create a database of all customer sites and list what company equipment is in use there with latest drawings and photos.
* Produce attractive flow diagrams to show in simple form what the 3D design is doing with the materials it is processing (in MS Visio or similar).
* Create mass balances of materials flowing and dividing over the 3D layout (this is a rare requirement, but it would be very handy).
* Provide monthly reports detailing statistical information relating to sales, if required.
* Attend site as and when necessitated by the circumstances of a particular project.
* Assist members of the Sales team during tender submissions.
* Benchmark competitor marketing activity/techniques, as well as those used outside our sector to maximise the effectiveness of our Sales design output.

Applications Engineer - General Engineering Duties

* Carry out engineering work for the Projects department in the form of Project Engineering tasks and/or detailed design to help release work to the factory, if needed.
* Take time to understand the design-to-manufacture process in order to suggest improvements based on your experience e.g. automated BOM creation from SolidWorks.
* Help write and develop company Design Rules
* Help create a Library of Machines containing all the pertinent information we collectively hold about every product integrated in our layouts.
* Work on the development of any standard or non-standard machines and applications.

We are looking for a qualified Electrical/Electronic Engineer to act as the Subject Matter Expert for our products and solutions, serving as the liaison between our Technical/R&D Manager and the Production, Sales & Marketing, and Operations departments. This person will become the Technical Manager's proxy and will be the first point of contact with Production for the introduction of new products, improvements, changes in build or configuration, quality assurance etc.

Assistant Technical Manager / Technical Product Manager - Roles & Responsibilities:
This is a varied role which requires both deep electrical engineering knowledge as well as people-management experience. Responsibilities include:
* Own the interface between the Technical and Operations Departments, ensuring successful integration of technical improvements, new products, programming updates etc into Production
* Assist the Technical Manager with all new software and hardware products to be operationally assessed as part of technical sign-off procedure
* Creation, delivery and control of technical documentation and procedures
* Perform regular inspections and assessments to ensure quality control / assurance standards are met
* Provide in-house technical support for Sales, Marketing, 2nd-line Technical Support, Field Engineers and Production
* Deliver training to improve technical understanding and introduce new products

Assistant Technical Manager / Technical Product Manager - Professional Attributes:

This position would equally suit a Project Engineer or Contracts Engineer.
Working within our Process Engineering Division, the successful candidate will undertake a variety of engineering tasks including the review and industrial process technology to lead to the generation of detailed technical and commercial sales proposals.

Applications Engineer - ACTIVITIES
Reporting to the Product Applications Manager you will be working with the Company's Technical Services Engineers, Contracts Engineers and Field Sales Engineers.
Key tasks include day-to-day responsibility for the generation of technically and commercially attractive quotations through the assessment of customer requirements and the use of in-house software to select key components and equipment to meet a specified process need. This will include system flow and pipe work pressure drop & combustion calculations to ensure the accurate application of the Company's range of industrial process equipment.
Other important tasks will include the completion of project engineering checks and the preparation of commissioning specifications, along with providing pre and post sales applications support to the Company's External Sales and Internal Engineering functions.
In addition to the above mentioned tasks, and depending on the workload in Contracts Department, there will be a requirement from time to time to carry out the role of Contracts Engineer to balance the demands within the departments and to maintain familiarity with the procedures and requirements of the Contracts Department.

Applications Engineer - THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of HNC or equivalent in Chemical, Mechanical or a Process Engineering discipline with experience in a compatible industry or a manufacturer of related equipment. Candidates qualified to Graduate/HNC level with less experience but with clear potential will also be considered.

This is a demanding and rewarding position which will allow the successful candidate to develop within a large industrial group. Remuneration will be discussed at the point of offer and will be commensurate with the level of qualification and experience, plus paid overtime when required. They currently require a Field Service Engineer with experience of combustion equipment, electrical controls and systems and an appreciation of steam applications and distribution systems.

Working from home as part of a nationwide team, covering the North West, you will be ideally located within a 50 mile radius of Warrington, possess a full driving license, flexible attitude and the ability to work without supervision in a customer-driven environment are essential.

DEPUTY HEAD OF ENGINEERING

Deputy Head of Engineering - main roles and responsibilities

* Ensure that modifications, operation and maintenance processes meet the company Quality, Health and Safety, and Environmental standards.
* Ensure that the appropriate process is applied for any works resulting in both temporary and permanent modifications and changes to equipment and infrastructure including appropriate design reviews, and that such modifications and changes to the systems or deviations from the design configurations are visible, understood, documented and controlled.
* Maintain a good understanding of technical assets, equipment and testing methods being used in the R&D facility through communication with other managers, attendance of design reviews, plant meetings, etc…
* Working closely with the Engineering Services Manager and Site Services Team Lead, review and ensure the operating requirements and instructions required to maintain the integrity of the system designs are delivered in accordance with the operating manuals and specified requirements.
* Review maintenance progress, actions and status, approving or rejecting any deviations from the plan including deferral of maintenance tasks or temporary changes to the system, in consultation with the relevant Engineering Manager.
* Attend Engineering team leadership meetings, develop and maintain appropriate reports and KPIs, participate in setting the department's annual budget and share in the responsibility of managing performance to that budget.
* Support the Head of Engineering with the day-to-day management of the Engineering team.

Deputy Head of Engineering - Qualifications, Skills & Experience

* A good level knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering gained through experience with complex engineering products or industrial machinery.
* Demonstrable experience of working with and implementing changes to engineering design processes and engineering drawings within an industrial quality management system.
* A Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar subject) or equivalent knowledge gained through experience. Preferably Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrated leadership experience in a technical environment preferably with 5+ years' experience.
* Experience of managing a diverse and multi-experienced team of engineers. Providing direction to those more experienced, and guidance and development to the junior members of the team.

Deputy Head of Engineering - Attributes
