What Quality Assurance contributes to Cardinal Health
Quality develops and implements quality policies, procedures, and processes to ensure products and services comply with regulatory standards and specifications.

Quality Assurance develops and implements a compliant and cost effective quality system that assures products and services are reliable, safe and effective. This job family provides oversight of production/manufacturing activities, training to operational and quality control personnel, and educates business leaders on Quality policies and procedures and ensures that all products and services are properly reviewed for quality and documented.

Job Summary
The Principal Specialist, Quality Assurance is responsible for ensuring quality standards and procedures are followed. They will be in charge of quality monitoring and assurance to ensure that all products manufactured are of the highest quality possible. Inspection and quality assurance activities to meet specifications and quality standards for variety of in-process and finished products. Authorized to inspect products to ensure the required quality standards are met. Reports to Manager, Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities

• Inspecting and sampling of product throughout the manufacturing process.
•  Establish and maintain quality control procedures.
• Assist in determining types of tests to be performed as well as documentation and reporting
• requirements.
• Interact regularly with manufacturing and service functions to establish quality standards for raw material, work in process, and finished products.
• Champion Quality, GMP compliance and EHS/Radiation Safety practices.
• Develop and lead GMP/GDP training of all employees. Follows/ mentors GDP/GMP requirements.
• Actively partner with plant management and personnel in troubleshooting quality deficiencies and implement corrective measures to eliminate quality problems.
• Assists in the release of the final product in compliance with applicable regulations (FDA, EU,
• etc.) and marketing authorizations.
• Responsible for the review and dispositioning of incoming raw materials and components.
• Ensures quality events are complete and accurate and resolved in a timely manner that meets the expectations of applicable quality agreements.
• Responsible for approval of minor Quality Events.
• Ability to network across business and functional units to achieve positive outcomes.
• Able to challenge, appropriately, the design, conduct, and reporting of GMP activities including metrics and annual reporting.  In that context, has the knowledge of the production process of the product.
• Understands technical/release product issues and evaluate their potential impact on product quality and compliance.
• Provides ideas for continuous improvement of the GMP Quality Management System.
• Escalates complex issues to management in a timely manner.
• Prioritizes and ensures work is delivered in an efficient way.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field preferred or previous work experience in a similar role or related field preferred
• 4-8 years of relevant work experience working with 21 CFR 210, 211 in the FDA regulated industry (Pharmaceutical or Medical Device) preferred.
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and manage timelines and priorities.
• Ability to work independently with minimum guidance.

Work Environment

• The primary work environment consists of an office, warehouse and production environments within a radiopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Employees handle radioactive materials and are exposed to very low amounts of radiation that are deemed safe by current standards. The facility is operated under well-controlled and closely monitored conditions that are regulated by both State and Federal agencies, and that are enforced by the corporate internal quality and regulatory groups. Each staff member will receive specific training in keeping radiation exposures within regulatory guidelines and he/she will be routinely monitored for their exposure to radiation. Noise levels are considered low to moderate.

What Pharmacy Services & Delivery contributes to Cardinal Health 

Responsible for the prompt and accurate delivery and distribution of radiopharmaceuticals or oncology pharmaceuticals to medical care providers in accordance with customer demand and requirements of the assigned route. Prepares doses for shipment, prepares cases, wipes doses, and loads and unloads containers in keeping with the prescribed safety standards and Department of Transportation (DOT).

Responsibilities

• Prepares and makes deliveries to customer accounts on assigned route using a company vehicle (non-cdl)
• Packages radiopharmaceutical medication for shipment, performs testing, and loads/unloads containers
• Uses a handheld tablet to scan customer orders for accuracy, obtain route stop information and navigation 
• Processes packages returned from customer locations
• Maintains vehicles in proper working condition and may perform minor roadside repairs

What Nuclear Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy. Licensed.

Responsibilities

• Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist, including compounding of nuclear medications, testing for quality through chromatography, and directing distribution of medication using a team of drivers.
• Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary.
• Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation.
• Manages and directs internal workflows of nuclear pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in-class and streamlined pharmacy operations.
• Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the nuclear pharmacy business.
• Maintains relationships with outside suppliers and vendors to understand availability of drug components and assist in demand planning.
• Participates in administrative tasks to facilitate nuclear pharmacy operations, including interactions with customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and/or PharmD preferred
• Valid Pharmacist’s license in Tennessee, or able to obtain a valid license.
• Must complete at least 200 hours of academic training in a nuclear pharmacy through an accredited program.
• Working knowledge of biohazardous waste management procedures preferred.
• Ability to hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and health care professionals.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Manual dexterity required for occasional reach, lifting and holding of small objects.
• Demonstrated manual dexterity in order to dispense doses.
• Ability to lift containers weighing up to 110 pounds.
• Must hold a valid driver's license in the state in which the pharmacy is located.
• Comfortable driving in all types of weather conditions (rain, sleet, snow, fog, wind and sun). 
• Deliveries occur during both nighttime and daytime conditions.

• Authorized User: As defined in part by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, an individual who has completed a minimum of 700 hours of training in a structured educational program consisting of both didactic training and supervised on the job training in radiation physics, instrumentation, radiation protection, chemistry, math and radiation biology. This is usually divided into two sections: 200 hours of formal course work and 500 hours of supervised experience. For current pharmacists, the requirements are the same plus a preceptor statement of training from an Authorized Nuclear Pharmacist.

Through effective leadership and coordination with a team of direct reports, the primary purpose of the Pharmacist II, Nuclear is to manage, facilitate, and oversee execution of day-to-day operations of the nuclear pharmacy. The Pharmacist II, Nuclear has completed all necessary training and is licensed to be a practicing nuclear pharmacist in their state of occupation. As such, this job has responsibility for optimizing pharmacy operations and procedures to ensure consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, maximize customer satisfaction and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies.
