The incumbent performs as a Supervisory Biomedical Engineer for the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) program at the Kansas City VAMC, a large, 1b complexity medical center. The Kansas City VAMC has 157 beds and 8 CBOCs serving more than 50,000 veterans. The facility is supported by $47million inventory of medical equipment. HTM Service oversees all medical equipment systems.

Major duties include but not limited to:

Duties include:
The position will provide anesthesia coverage for all specialties of surgery, beside specializing in cardiac
surgeries in a care team approach. Must have experience with anesthetic management for cardiac,
Thoracic, and major vascular procedures and providing anesthesia for insertion of ventricular assist
devices and ECMO.
This position will also be experienced in performing neuraxial (epidural and spinal) anesthesia. Additional
responsibilities include the provision of anesthetic care including transesophageal echocardiography for
Non-Cardiac Anesthesia Procedures.
As Director of Cardiac Anesthesia, the incumbent will be responsible for writing and updating standard

The CDHO is the resident expert in digital health and serves as the primary advisor to the Medical Center Director, Chief of Staff (COS), Associate Director(s), the Associate Director Patient Care Services, and other members of the executive leadership team. The CDHO serves as a key member of the VISN leadership team and is the key advisor to to the VISN Executive Leadership Team on all matters pertaining to digital health functions related integration, strategy, utilization, and adoption. The CDHO leads the VISN Digital Health Office, which is compromised of Health Informatics, Connected Care, and Artificial Intelligence.

The CDHO functions as an administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Nurse IV is responsible for administrative functions of their assigned nursing units/programs. Functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with Nursing/Patient Care Services and other services. Must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Key relationships with staff are needed to (1) Assist nurse managers and advanced practitioners to carry out the functions and activities expected of them, (2) Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide, (3) Assist in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs, and (4) Collaborate with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care. The population of male and female Veterans served ranges from the adult, age 18, to the elderly adult, age 65 and over. The Atlanta VAHCS is an interdisciplinary teaching facility providing care for a large Veteran population with multiple medical and/or mental health co-morbidities.

3. FUNCTIONS:

The incumbent will be responsible to the Deputy Associate Director for Nursing/Patient Care Services and Service Line Manager or Service Line Designee, as appropriate for practice area. Refer to the Organizational Chart for the supervisory chain of command. The Chief Nurses report directly to the Atlanta VAHCS Associate Director of Patient Care Services (ADPCS) for nursing practice and administrative issues.

The Chief Nurses are responsible for assuring fulfillment of nursing, Atlanta VAHCS, and VISN Mission, Vision and Values and for establishing productive working relationships with other administrative services, professional discipline consultants, and community agencies and organizations. As a member of the Nursing leadership team, the Chief Nurses participate in assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting ideas and values, developing and implementing policies, initiating programs, systems, and managing resources. In addition, the incumbent is accountable for all issues that affect nursing practice, such as credentials, functional statements, job descriptions, standards of practice and performance. The Chief Nurses provide active participation in the achievement of Nursing Strategic Goals. The incumbent may also participate in the Atlanta VAHCS Nurse Practice/Protocol Councils and may serve as chairperson of various Atlanta VAHCS committees. The Nurse IV Chief of SPS plays a leadership role in ongoing systematic evaluation and improvement of quality and effectiveness of SPS program outcomes. The incumbent provides health system-wide leadership for critical and semi-critical RMD, including sterile storage, reprocessing, standard operating procedures (SOP), competency assessment, selection, operation, and maintenance of reprocessing equipment, staff education program for RMDs, and quality management of SPS. The incumbent is responsible for assessing, monitoring, developing, and implementing corrective action plans for instrument processing, decontamination, sterilization, storage, biological monitoring, and high-level disinfection monitoring through an SPS Quality Management System. The incumbent assesses the environment, analyzes trends, transmits data, communicates ideas, develops, and implements policies, initiates programs and systems, and collaborates in the management of resources. The incumbent has knowledge in areas of patient care practices, microbiology, asepsis, disinfection/sterilization process, education, infectious diseases, communication, program administration and epidemiology. The incumbent has responsibility and oversight of evidence ­based practice (EBP) infection control relating to sterile processing standards.

Demonstrates leadership in developing and maintaining productive working relationships with groups in other medical programs and services across the spectrum of care including administrative/support programs and services across the healthcare system. At the national level, the incumbent formulates, builds upon, and sustains key relationships with the members of the Assistant Under Secretary for Health (AUSH) for Patient Care Services, specifically, the Office for Sterile Processing (OSP) and the Office of Nursing Services (ONS), when called upon.
