The role
As a Planning Engineer , you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Working on the latest cutting-edge technology for the Royal Navy ensuring the continuous at sea deterrent which ensures the safe guarding of the UK.

Day-to-day, you'll identify the maintenance data and work required for the future submarine maintenance periods.

• Resolve any planning and scheduling ambiguities within these activities.

• Build the indicative planning schedule (key date schedule) for the maintenance work activities

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home. It is also adaptable and can be delivered from various locations including Bristol, Plymouth and Helensburgh.

This position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites around once per month.

Essential experience of the Planning Engineer

• Experience working as a Planning Engineer on complex engineering projects OR experience as a mechanical or electrical engineer.
• Understanding of relevant systems such as P6 or Microsoft project.

Qualifications for the Planning Engineer

• Ideally hold an HNC or HND, although this is not essential.

Our client is looking for a Finance Business Partner to support the business partnering and management accounts function, to work closely with the Corporate Service directorate and, in particular, Digital Services.

• Required start date: 2nd December - initially for 3 months (likely to be 6 months at least)
• Paying between £475-£525 a day via Umbrella or PAYE (inside IR35 role)
• Requires full / valid SC clearance that is valid for the duration of the assignment, which could be until May 2025 initially.

• Managing two Management Accountants.
• Getting involved with preparation for the interim audit and year-end audit.
• There is also a potential to get involved with the wider programme of work as they migrate to SAP4Hana in April 2025.
• They are also working on a business wide spending review and aligning this with the budget-setting process for 25/26.
  

Key deliverables

• Be able to embed quickly into the corporate services directorate as a finance business partner, meeting stakeholders, particularly in the digital area.
• Understand what the business drivers are and collaborate on setting budgets for 25/26 and assist in both Interim and Year end Audits.
• Prepare monthly reports, provide analysis and insight that links financial reports to business strategies.

Key requirements to apply:

• Full professional qualification in accountancy UK CCAB or CIMA* with current membership of a professional body
• Experience of effective relationships and stakeholder management skills with the ability to persuade, influence and motivate others to engage actively in good financial management.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to describe complex technical issues in a clear non-technical way, including through report writing and presentation skills.
• Experience of budget setting in a time-pressured environment using a variety of tools and knowledge and business intelligence.
• Sound problem-solving skills.
• Robust analytical and interpretative skills.
• The ability to quickly assimilate and apply new techniques and knowledge.

They need an experienced Construction Senior Project Manager who is able to confidently lead project teams to deliver construction projects, providing timely instructions and support to all relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities

In the next phase of this project, you will be responsible for the following activities:

• Leading project teams to deliver construction projects providing timely instructions and support to all the relevant stakeholders
• Work with built environment contractors and developers (stakeholders) adhering to development agreements.
• Beware of and ensure the application of the necessary measures to meet CDM 2015 requirements
• To be available to deal with onsite issues in appropriate and timely fashion
• Proactively manage stakeholder expectations, representing our client's interests to deliver projects on budget and in line with construction programmes
• The ability to manage internal budgets and apply a problem-solving approach to issues and challenges
• Bringing together and lead the resources needed to evaluate each of the available options
• Developing business cases for the firmer proposals that emerge from the evaluations and progressing these through the client's decision-making processes
• Establishing and maintaining appropriate governance for the project, including progress reporting to the project board
• Updating and maintaining key project controls (e.g. plan, RAID log, budget management) using our project management software
• Reporting progress to client's Director

Knowledge, skills and experience

The successful candidate will particularly be able to demonstrate:

• Development and management of construction projects
• Significant experience of options appraisal and business case development
• Familiarity with public sector procurement
• Ability to control budgets relating to allocated projects and achieve financial targets set out.
• Experience and understanding of standard forms of construction contracts.
• Experience in managing and securing relevant statutory, regulatory third-party and other approvals
• Knowledge of health and safety law, duties, and responsibilities in a construction setting.
• Flexibility with regards to travel to and around the area as required to support successful achievement of the outcomes for this phase of the project
• Be qualified to degree level or has developed skills and experience to this level
