The Role

General Practitioner is responsible for the safe, effective and timely delivery of medical assessments on behalf of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) - for new recruits to the Royal Navy, the Marines and the Reserves.

This involves adopting an occupational medicine approach. Initially the Primary Care notes and optician report are to be reviewed in order to determine if there are or have been any conditions that may impact on a candidate’s ability to safely carry out the role they have applied for, or that may be made worse by the role.

Then a face-to-face medical allows further discussion of the candidate’s history and a thorough head to toe (non-intimate) examination enables the clinician to assess the condition of the candidate.

Any conditions found which may have a bearing on their fitness to enter the Royal Navy or Royal Marines are discussed with a senior Naval clinician who takes a decision on the final outcome.

This is then communicated to the candidate.

Full training is given in this process and reference material is provided to support the clinicians.

The MPGS provides professional soldiers to meet armed security requirements at Royal Navy, Army, RAF and other MOD bases across the UK Mainland. Our primary role is to counter the terrorist threat posed to military bases within the UK

Our duties include:

You will also be expected to work with patients on a 1:1 basis, following a rehabilitation programme set by the physiotherapist. What we are looking for in our ideal Electrical Tester:

Competent in all aspects of electrical discipline, have testing/ completing certificatioe experience, owning a full set of tools and will ideally have experience of working within a social housing environment. Qualifications required are the current version of BS7671 (18th edition) NVQ 3 and Testing and Inspection 2391 or Equivalent, and AM2. Driving Licence essential. Have Inspection and testing experience and ability to complete EICRs.
