The duties of the Transport and Logistics Director role will include:
- Reviewing and forecasting workflow, manpower, and space requirements for logistics operations
- Analysing logistical challenges and develop innovative solutions
- Liaising with suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers to ensure smooth operations
- Tracking and monitoring key factors such as quality, quantity, delivery times, and transport costs
- Resolving arising problems or complaints to maintain customer satisfaction
- Developing transportation strategies to meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets
- Managing and overseeing the transportation budget, preparing and approving the department’s annual financial plan
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and lead the development of safety training programs for staff
What skills and experience do you need?
The ideal candidate for this Transport and Logistics Director role will have a relevant bachelor's degree in fields such as Supply Chain Management or Logistics, with an advanced degree like an MBA being a plus. Professional certifications, including those from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and CPC qualifications, are highly regarded, alongside process improvement and technology certifications like Six Sigma. A vast amount of leadership experience in logistics, managing large teams and global supply chains is essential. Key skills include strategic leadership, operational expertise, problem-solving, financial acumen, and proficiency in logistics software systems. Additionally, the role requires industry-specific knowledge of regulations and best practices to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
