As a key leader, the Service Chief drives innovation in patient care delivery, engages in strategic planning, and ensures compliance with VHA standards and policies. The Chief APN is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who is a senior level leader. They provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and advancing the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission.

Executive leadership characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross services and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care. The Chief APN is responsible for leadership of service and programmatic operations, both clinical and administrative. They function as an administrator, educator, and consultant in collaboration with all clinical services/programs at the facility or network level, interdisciplinary service leaders, and executive leadership. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relates effectively with customers, families, and the community.

The Chief APN:
(1) Assists Nurse Leaders, APNs, and interdisciplinary clinicians in carrying out the functions and activities expected of them, (2) Contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of clinical practice,
(3) Leads and collaborates in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs, and
(4) Collaborates with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross services and/or disciplines that influence organizational mission and health care.
(5) Other duties as assigned.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Oversees, guides, manages and integrates supply chain operations across the organization, including planning/coordination with fiscal, acquisition, clinical and administrative operations.

• Plans forecasts and executes budget for healthcare resources and services, supplies, subsistence, durable medical equipment, medical gases, expendable/non-expendable and capital equipment, inventory management, warehouse operations, transportation and distribution.
• Conducts audits, compliance reviews, and program effectiveness and efficiency reviews of all logistics activities to ensure satisfactory levels of service and comply with all applicable laws.
• Leads in the standardization of recurring-use supplies and equipment including developing formalized communication and education plan.
• Analyzes the supply chain, developing actions as a result of analysis results, metrics, quality assurance/compliance, operating practices, and reporting within the health care system.
• Serves as the senior supply chain management officer for a VA Health Care System with multiple sites of care and supported catchment area.
• Analyzes supply status and directs the priority of maintenance effort for organizational equipment.
• Establishes policy and ensures best practices are implemented as appropriate.
• Oversees all activities involved in providing needed logistics support, to include capital asset planning, strategic sourcing of commodities through vehicles such as the Medical/Surgical Prime Vendor (MSPV) contract and other contract vehicles.
• Serves as the Chairperson of one or more commodity disciplines, involving multiple product variations and services under the VISN Commodities Standardization Committee.
• Establishes, maintains, and promotes VA HCS and supported catchment area logistics personnel training and professional development program.

The team at MaineGeneral Medical Center Workplace Health, MaineGeneral’s occupational medicine clinic, is seeking a physician enthusiastic about the practice of evidence-based occupational medicine and an interest in an opportunity for growth as a leader.

Competitive candidates for the position of occupational physician should:

• be board certified or board eligible in occupational medicine (preferred), internal, family, or emergency medicine (considered).

• have at least three years' experience in occupational medicine (urgent and primary care experience may be acceptable).

• be experienced in or willing to practice evidence-based occupational medicine in accordance with applicable laws.

• be certified or become certified by the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

• be certified or become certified as a Medical Review Officer (MRO).

• have a strong understanding of regulations governing the workplace, including workers’ compensation, transportation, occupational safety and other applicable regulations. 

As a Medical Director, the physician should:

• be able to demonstrate previous experience in a leadership role.

• be able to demonstrate and encompass the qualities to lead, inspire, and train staff.

• be comfortable with a mix of patient care (two days per week) and staff support and development, consultations, administrative tasks, oversight of state and federal contracts and more (three days per week).

• be approachable and available to the team, while encouraging engagement.

• have and be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with others, be empathetic and embrace the values and standards of MaineGeneral Health.

• be willing to present and participate in educational programs, such as CAOHC and the NIOSH respirator program.

• have and be able to demonstrate strong presentation skills (for both internal and external purposes) to enhance the success of Workplace Health.

• be able to make strategic and informed decisions that guide growth and direction.

MaineGeneral Workplace Health serves Kennebec and Somerset counties in central Maine, which includes the state capital, Augusta. Many of our current responsibilities are with State of Maine governmental organizations and include consultation with, and surveillance of, State of Maine personnel.  We have multiple industry site clinics staffed by Workplace Health’s medical and nursing team that affords our staff exposure to a stimulating variety of work environments.

You will work together collegially, along with physicians, advanced practitioners, nurses, medical assistants, health coaches, dietitians and administrative staff.  Employee Health Services, Workplace Health clinics operate between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  There is no call and evening and weekend work is rare.
