The Role and Department

The Head of Payroll and People Services is a new role which will be responsible for managing a team of Payroll and HR colleagues to continue establishing and embedding a high performing compliancy focussed service which provides a consistently high level of support to staff across the University and reflects best practice.

Reporting to the Assistant HR Director, the post-holder will play a critical role in the delivery of the University's Payroll and People Services team. The focus of the role will be predominantly focused on payroll but the role holder will also oversee the team responsible for related HR processes in a complex organisation including the recruitment of casual staff to meet the workforce needs of the university. The Head of Payroll, People and Pay Services must be versatile and able to work closely and collaboratively with stakeholders within the wider HR&OD team and across the University.

From early 2025 the base location for this role will change from our Durham City Centre site to our exciting new professional services hub based at Boldon House. Boldon House is situated on the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me. Boldon House will bring a number of professional services teams together in a vibrant office environment which supports collaborative working and is designed to embrace hybrid working. Job Description

• Manage the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen that operates across multiple outlets, ensuring the company’s reputation for food quality is maintained at all times.
• Organise the planning, preparation, cooking and presentation of food to the standards required by the company and the client.
• Ensure supplies are correctly issued, used and accounted for to carry out stock takes and food rotation procedures.
• Set objectives and be responsible for the day to day running of the kitchens including supervising the recruitment and selection process
• Assess employee performance and recognise training needs and potential as appropriate.
• Continuously update your industry knowledge on current food trends and ingredients.
• Control and achieve agreed financial targets whilst maximising all commercial opportunities, communicating this with the team as and when needed.
• Ensure that the location meets statutory and company requirements of Health and Safety, Food Safety and environmental legislation and procedures.

Qualifications

• Food’s provenance is critical to you and the closer to your kitchen, the better
• You understand that being a great chef is not just about cooking but the ability to work with a team, and build relationships
• You will have proven experience within a demanding kitchen at the relevant level

Sunderland Care and Support are a provider of high-quality care who are passionate about supporting adults with learning disabilities in Sunderland. We are seeking to recruit a Team Leader into our Supported Living Services who is able to encourage a workplace culture based on respect and dignity for those in need of care and support.

The service is in our Physical and Complex supported living division and provides 24/7 staff provision and is designed to encourage customers to participate within their local community, develop a wide range of skills and maintain a tenancy within the city of Sunderland. Customers within our Supported Living Services have a diverse range of care needs and require a wide range of support.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced individual who can lead and motivate a team of support workers to build a sense of community, encouraging our customers to have a voice, share their views, have choice, and feel at home. Preferably qualified to at least NVQ/QCF Level 3 in adult social care, with demonstrable experience of caring for and supporting adults with learning disabilities, you will also have experience of supervising and leading in a care setting.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As Team Leader your role will be to provide support to an agile Service Manager, Team Leaders are responsible for the smooth and safe running of the service, including managing and creating the monthly rotas, updating and managing care plans, supporting and supervising support workers, including inducting new team members, as well as overseeing reporting such as medication records and health and safety checks. Team Leaders are also expected to work jointly with other professionals to ensure customers receive support which is designed to meet their own personal need.

Working with the Care Co-ordinator, the Team Leader will ensure that we provide high quality, person-centred care and support, supporting practical, social and spiritual needs, leading the service delivery in the house in line with Sunderland Care and Support values and standards and the requirements of the Care Quality Commission [CQC].
