The Role
As a Commercial Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Sitting within the Naval Nuclear Commercial team within Babcock's Nuclear Sector, you'll be supporting our work at Devonport Royal Dockyard. We are a key strategic partner to our customers, the MOD and the Royal Navy. As a Commercial Manager, you will be supporting contract management activities to ensure the financial and commercial interests of the Company are optimised. You will support the achievement of financial targets and ensure that contractual obligations and associated risks are adequately dealt with.
Day-to-day, you'll be part of the commercial team who is supporting contract management of the principal submarine contract which requires the processing of contract changes, providing advice on the contract, setting up Non-Disclosure Agreements, supporting internal and external meetings, working with finance to provide accurate forecasting and taking time to develop yourself with training and support to meet your commercial competencies:
- Interacting with both internal stakeholders (project, finance, supply chain) and external stakeholders (Customer (MOD) and suppliers).
- Acting as a line manager to direct reports.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and requires regular travel to Bristol or Plymouth, on a monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.

Essential Experience of the Commercial Manager:
- Ability to communicate well and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Commercially astute with a broad understanding of the procurement process.
- Ability to make decisions within delegated authority and to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail with the ability to identify commercial risks, propose steps to mitigate, and communicate effectively.
- Good communication, presentation, networking and negotiation skills.
- Ideally, you will have experience in the defence industry but, this is not essential.
Qualifications for the Commercial Manager:
- Ideally, you will hold or be working towards a recognised, relevant, commercial qualification (World Commerce and Contracting / WCC, IACCM) or equivalent / similar but, this is not essential.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
