Qualifications & Experience

• Experience: Experience in quantity surveying, ideally with a residential developer or within the housebuilding sector.
• Education: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field; RICS or CIOB membership preferred.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of cost planning, budget management, and construction contracts, with experience using cost management software (e.g., COINS, CostX).
• Analytical and Communication Skills: High attention to detail with excellent analytical abilities, along with strong written and verbal communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead and develop junior team members and foster a collaborative work environment.

Provide a high quality social work service to children, their families and carers by using relationship based practice, following service practice standards and statutory guidance. Work in partnership with children, their families, carers and professionals to identify the right services for children who need help and protection or who need support to progress whilst in care or leaving care. Maintain accurate case notes within statutory timescales, prepare plans, reviews and reports and engage in statutory supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Under supervision, work independently to hold and effectively manage a caseload of complex cases. Respond to complex referrals, provide casework advice, support, and guidance to other team members. Use the signs of safety framework for all social work practice. Carry out investigations, assessment, and management of risk, write reports, give evidence in court, and provide professional opinion and work with children and young people in care, at all times following statutory and service standards and guidance.
Build relationships with children, young people, and all key family members as the basis for all support and child protection responses. Provide support based on best evidence, which is tailored to meet individual child and family needs and which addresses relevant and significant risks. Overcome hostility and resistance to social care involvement. Work in partnership and undertake negotiation with families and professionals for full participation in assessment, planning, review, and decision making, at all times prioritising safety of children/young people.
Observe and talk to children in their environment, including at home, school with parents, carers, friends and peers to help understand their development and the impact on their development by the quality of their physical and social environment, different parenting styles and any communication difficulties, ill-health or disabilities.
Identify the impact of adult mental ill health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, and disability on how families work and the effect on children, including those who are young carers. Access professional help to prevent adult social need and risk. Identify and manage any concerning adult behaviour and the risk to children.
Work with partner agencies where there is concern about the safety and welfare of children, triangulate evidence to ensure robust conclusions are drawn. Recognise harm and risk indicators of different forms of harm to children and young people relating to various forms of abuse and neglect. Consider contextual safeguarding issues, which pose a risk to children and young people.
Carry out in-depth and on-going family assessment of social need and risk to children, with particular emphasis on risk, parental capacity, and capability to change. Take into account individual child and family history and how this might affect the ability of adults and children to engage with services.
Understand and analyse the seriousness that different risks present, and any harm already suffered by a child, balanced with family strengths and potential solutions. Determine whether there is sufficient safety of a child to remain with the family and the support needed for that to happen. If the child is looked after, whether there is enough safety for the child to return home.
Make realistic, evidence-based, child centred plans within a review timeline, which will manage and reduce identified risks and meet the needs of the child. Chair multi-disciplinary meetings to involve relevant professionals and minimise chances of drift or delay. Ensure actions on the plan are progressed within statutory timescales.

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join my clients growing team based in Sheffield with Hybrid working available. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be working within a specialist team, supporting them in various projects and areas. You will be involved with projects including refurbishments, fit-outs, major extensions, cladding and design and build across an array of sectors. Values typically range anywhere from £2m - £20m.

Duties of a Senior Quantity Surveyor:

Your day to day will include:

• Regular financial reporting; processing and administration of applications for payment upstream and downstream and managing relationships with the Client and the appointed professional team.

• Collaborative working with all external and internal stakeholders will be crucial, including mentoring/managing an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the growth of the hub

• Working on a portfolio of projects predominately involving the refurbishment of buildings across the Blue Light, Health, Education, Retail and commercial sectors, with a focus on works that are safety critical and involve significant fire and general safety risk

Requirements for a Senior Quantity Surveyor

This role of Senior Quantity Surveyor is great for you if:

• Demonstrate general construction knowledge
• Have Experience of delivering projects under NEC and JCT Forms of Contract
• Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying

Senior / Managing Quantity Surveyor - High-end Residential projects.
Your new company

A successful residential developer working across the UK on high end developments seek an experienced senior QS to join the team. With several new projects starts imminent, almost exclusively for social housing developments. Schemes are geared towards the higher end of the market and tend to be high rise residential blocks, £6 - £60m. Due to a planned expansion within the business, there is now an additional need for a permanent Senior Quantity Surveyor to work closely with the operations director and back office teams. With newly refurbished offices in a central location, a stacked orderbook and stable team, this is an excellent long-term opportunity for any QS looking to work on the more bespoke higher end of the residential sector.

Your new role

As senior Qs, you will be responsible for all commercial decisions across multiple sites. Your duties will include helping price new schemes, authorising payments, measuring/remeasuring works on site, assessing/agreeing variations, mitigating any financial risk, agreeing final accounts and liaising with various stakeholders to ensure the right commercial decisions are being taken for the business.

You will work predominantly in the Sheffield office, 2 days a week, hybrid working, visiting your various sites once a month.

You will be heavily involved in the shaping of the role and your opinion will be actively sought on best practise and alternative processes. This is a key role within the business and one that is expected to grow into a commercial lead in the medium term.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a competent Senior QS with a stable background working within the higher end residential sector. You will have previously worked in a similar role with either a main contractor or Developer and be comfortable working independently, managing your own workload and making commercial decisions.

You will ideally have some form of surveying qualifications and be looking for a long-term career move.
