Senior Planner

A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Utility Surveyor

- Undertaking of high-quality utility surveys in a variety of environments using the latest EM and GPR technologies and equipment available.
- Site visits and client meetings to assist in job quotations and tendering stage of larger projects.
- Advising projects in the wider business on best survey methods to meet project requirements.
- Handling, processing, and interpreting geospatial data within the sub-surface environment

This role provides PA support to a senior Manager and is individually accountable for achieving results through own efforts.

In general accountable for the PA support to managers in role size R and senior (exceptions may apply). All responsibilities of the Secretary and PA, as well as the following. Could be accountable for the management of one or more staff members. Accountable for the coordination of other PA¿s deliveries in the BU. Strong focus on dealing with escalated queries from clients, customers and other stakeholders (with potential for brand damage). Often accountable for the resolution of escalations without the involvement of the senior manager. Strong understanding of the business unit and associated OMSA structure. Act as an ambassador for the Business Unit. Advanced skills in minute taking and developing non-standard reports, minutes, presentations and correspondence. High level of ownership and independence (able to run the office in the absence of the senior for long periods of time). Accountable for completing task of a personal nature on behalf of the senior manager. High level of contact with external parties, stakeholders and clients / customers (Company CEOs, Executives etc.). Could be accountable for the management of a budget or significant spending on a budget.

- Represent the design department when necessary at internal and external meetings, Manage the interface with external or in house design teams on behalf of the Design Manager.

- Ensure that chargeable work is identified and evaluated including the preparation of adequate records of time spent.
- Collate feedback on designs and saved in accordance with procedure.
- Coach individual staff members.
- Prepare conceptual designs from with a view to the preparation of safe, practical and economic designs in accordance with current legislation.
- Prepare detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of working drawings.
- Check the design work of other staff members and external designers.
- Implementation of Temporary Works requirements and associated registers.

- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Preferred experience in Water (e.g. United Utilities) and Energy industries
- Experience of interfacing with clients & developing solutions
- Knowledge and understanding of construction plant & equipment to install pipelines/cables
- Good technical report writing skills suitable for submission to stakeholders and government bodies
- Preferred to have Trenchless Crossing Design Experience
- Design experience associated with linear infrastructure projects (cables and pipelines)
- FEED experience associated with the planning stages of linear infrastructure projects

This hands-on role requires exceptional coding skills, a passion for technology and engineering excellence, and the ability to guide and mentor multiple teams of engineers. You will play a pivotal role in defining and maintaining our technical architecture, ensuring alignment with business goals and scalability requirements. 

About Team:

The Associate Experience group focuses on building products that enable our Associates to serve Customers during the Checkout process. We use open-source tech to build software that stands on top of a foundational Platform architecture which is being built from the ground up. Your team will leverage React JS, React Native, Java, Spring, Kubernetes, NoSQL, Kafka and other such tools/frameworks.

What you’ll do:

• Assists in providing guidance to small groups of engineers, for assigned Engineering projects by proving pertinent documents, directions, examples, and timeline. 
• Provides support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies); researching and identifying needed solutions; determining implementation designs; providing guidance regarding implications of new and enhanced systems; identifying short- and long-term solutions; and directing users to appropriate contacts for issues outside of associate's domain. 
• Manages small to large-sized complex projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; researching and identifying alternative solutions; determining needed solution based on return on investment and value add to the business; gathering requested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames); writing and developing code; conducting unit testing; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project team and cross functional teams; identifying areas of opportunity; interpreting information and identifying a solution; ensuring solution is sustainable across implementation and use; troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes; and ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs.

What you’ll bring

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in software development building large scale complex distributed systems.
• Experience working with multiple tech stack – React or React Native, Java, k8s, Spring framework, API development, etc.
• Experience with monitoring tech – Splunk, Prometheus, APM, etc.
• Strong knowledge of complex software design, distributed system design, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
• Sound decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment.
