Performs a combination of routine and multiple and varying tasks/assignments under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee. Checks and updates altimeter readings and updates winds aloft. Operates, monitors, and safeguards the DHS Automatic Digital Network (AUTODIN) system. Makes entries into the operations network (OPSNET) concerning computer utilization, delays and traffic counts for designated facilities.

Collects and distributes flight plans, traffic management restrictions, notices to airmen (NOTAMS) and a variety of other data related to flight safety. Prepares and transmits NOTAMS, information requests (INREQS), alert notices (ALNOTS), AIRMETS, Pilot Weather Reports (PIREPS), Center Weather Advisories (CWAs), defense communication messages, traffic management and administrative messages. Trains developmental specialists in the performance of flight data and data communications system functional responsibilities.

Contacts are primarily internal but may also be external depending on the specialized area supported. Internal contacts often involve more than one organizational unit in a major subdivision and are with managers and other employees to share information and to discuss the statuses of tasks/assignments.

Established policies/procedures provide guidance for almost all tasks/assignments, but allow some discretion for employee to select the most appropriate approach (es). These positions are located at the Orlando VA Medical center, 13800 Veterans Way, Orlando, FL 32827.The Acute Care Nursing Assistant (NA) responsibilities include all activities of daily living and general patient care duties to help the healthcare team restore the Veteran to the highest level of independence or remain comfortable toward the end of life. The NA will provide support for diagnostic procedures, nursing treatments, patient charting, and reinforcement of patient education. The performance of these tasks involves direct working relationships with Veterans and participation as a member of the nursing care team in direct service to Veterans.

Nursing Assistant (NA) Acute care is a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving outpatient care, home, or community living care, or other patients/residents who are in acute, sub-acute or chronic states of illness. The distinguishing factor is that patient/resident assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. NAs at this level also assume more of a peer education/mentorship role by assisting with the coordination of new NA orientation and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. They will have the ability to recognize and react to emergent patient/resident care situations and intervene while waiting for assistance. Completed work may require routine or detailed higher-level review depending on the complexity of the duties.

The duties for the Acute Care Nursing Assistant include but not limited to:

• Plans, organizes, and prioritizes assigned workload.
• Measures and records intake and output.
• Demonstrates ability to properly use equipment, materials, and supplies in simple diagnostic and treatment procedures such as glucometer test for blood glucose level, EKGs, bladder scanning, collection of urine samples, sputum, and stool. Delivers samples to lab and picks up blood products from the blood bank.
• Records basic data and patient responses, reporting significant changes to the RN.
• Assists by positioning and draping as well as emotionally supporting patients/residents during a variety of diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Reports the condition of wounds and skin and any reaction to or results of treatment.

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant must possess a thorough working knowledge of clinic processes and services to function in and interact with various clinics throughout the hospital.
