We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Building Safety Consultant to join our Building Regulations Advisory team, this could be at Surveyor, Senior/Principal level or a Technical Director.

This role has been created within our Building Safety Unit and is a response to the industry changes which have arisen from the Building Safety Act. This role would suit Building Control professionals or other professionals with Building Control experience.

What does the role involve?

Managing a broad and interesting range of projects you will be a member of a highly motivated team and have responsibility for:

Undertaking Building Regulation assessments of designs to ensure and support compliance in the ongoing design prior to submissions to the Regulator or other relevant Building Control Approver.
Supporting Duty holders with their duties to plan, manage and monitor compliance.
Providing Building Regulations compliance strategies, reports and assistance on the prescribed documents required in gateway 2 submissions to the Building Safety Regulator.
Undertaking site visits, preparing site visit reports, witnessing tests, managing change control and coordination with the inspection team (therefore a full, valid driving licence is essential).
Attending client and design team meetings to give professional advice regarding The Building Regulations and The Building Safety Act.
Be familiar with and use management systems, including complying with the Quality Management system.
Operating in accordance with the commercial requirements of the projects (costs and programme)
To be successful in this role you’ll have a MRICS, MCABE or MCIOB or similar qualification (or be working towards) and have will experience in Building Control either as a BC Surveyor or as part of a design team. You will also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, alongside the ability to develop the business by introducing new clients and expanding the workload.

As an Apprentice in our exciting, fast paced team you will work on a range of real-time projects with local and national clients, collaborating with experienced professionals to develop wider technical and project delivery skills relevant to the role and your long-term career development. You will be involved in projects from conception to completion including; supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy; establishing project checking and approval arrangements and managing internal project start-up meetings; undertaking significant elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed: e.g. calculations, drawings, sketches, reports etc to achieve the optimum solution for the project; assessing, documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager; being aware of work requirements and taking personal responsibility in delivering this to agreed time, cost and quality requirements; reviewing projects on completion and recommending/implementing improvements to technical policy, processes and design solutions as appropriate.

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
10+ years relevant post qualification structures design experience and a strong successful record of project delivery in structures design including bridges and ancillary civils structures.
Chartered Membership of the ICE or IStructE
Significant experience with design to Eurocodes and DMRB.
Experience mentoring graduate engineers under ICE or IStructE training schemes.
Extensive experience of delivering projects within tight timescales.
Proficient with structural design and analysis software such as Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, LUSAS or similar.
Significant previous experience of providing project governance on projects.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to adapt your style to suit difference audiences.
Extensive civil structures design experience including working on multi-disciplinary projects.
Experience of working on projects from initial tender/bid submissions, project management, leading the production of engineering drawings, obtaining statutory or third party approvals, project administration, etc.
The ability to gain insight beyond a client’s immediate need to identify opportunities that benefit the client through meaningful and productive relationships.
Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
A full UK driving licence.

What does the role involve?

As a Senior Structural Engineer in our Building Standards department, you'll assist the Directors in providing leadership, management and technical quality to the team in the area of Civil and Structural Engineering, Consultancy and Reporting. Providing project direction to ensure technical quality, health and safety management, budget control and timely delivery. This will include providing clients with solid technical advice within the limits of the brief and being responsible for the delivery of a high quality service.

There will be some business development via existing and new clients, you'll act as a Client Relationship Manager, establishing and maintaining a client base and sustainable workload based on agreed targets and use your clients and contacts to generate work for other parts of the business.

Undertaking contract management on all delegated schemes, you'll liaise with clients and their representatives and attend design and site meetings. You'll prepare design solutions and manage the preparation of design calculations and drawings in accordance with the relevant design codes as well preparation of the specification, technical information and reports.

Other aspects of the role will include managing the costs and revenues on projects, complying with CDM regulations, keeping abreast of technical developments in the industry and training and mentoring less experienced Engineers.



To be successful in this role you’ll:

Be a qualified Civil or Structural Engineer, chartered or near chartered with the institute of Civil Engineers or Institute of Structural Engineers.
Have considerable experience in a comparable role with a bias towards development and project management.
Have excellent design skills and be able to competently undertake computer based analysis and have knowledge and understanding of UK codes of practice, Design Standards, Building Regulations and Health and Safety.
