We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Safety Engineer to join our Somerton Operations team on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Production Manager, this role will provide support in the day-to-day management of the technical HSE related activities of our Somerton Manufacturing operations.
This role will suit a hands-on, team orientated, practical thinking and self-motivated individual that would like to further their HSE career in a Manufacturing environment. Tailored on the job training and support is available for the successful individual.
This role is responsible for:
· Assist to develop and drive Steel Mains safety culture and practices by engaging stakeholders, to ensure that the site complies with HSE and regulatory requirements
· Assist in the safe delivery of mechanical maintenance, repair and installation tasks performed
· Assist with the improvement of preventative maintenance and plant equipment operating procedures and practices to safeguard personnel and maintain effect machine operation
· To plan, coordinate and supervise the safe installation and modification of Engineering plant and equipment at Somerton Pipe Plant as required.
· Maintenance of certification in accordance with AS/NZS ISO45001 & 14001
· Hands on approach in supporting operations team with the requirements of risk and hazard management, including assessment, incident investigation, corrective action and auditing
· Ensure the safety of personnel and plant and maintain safety systems.
· Ensure all new starters/visitors/contractors are inducted into Steel Mains HSE system and requirements
What you will bring to the team:
· 2 years’ experience in a similar role - ideally in a manufacturing environment
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (automation systems, sustainable or infrastructure)
· Working knowledge of relevant HSE legislation as well as AS/NZS ISO45001 and ISO14001 standards.
· Previous experience reporting, investigating, and implementing corrective and/or preventive actions resulting from identification of hazards, near miss incidents and work-related illness/injury.
· Ability to influence and negotiate best-practice outcomes.
· Strong communication skills
· Ability to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

· Internal auditor qualifications
· Return-to-Work Coordinator qualification
