PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Technical Support Engineer will provide expert technical assistance, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for power generation and water treatment systems. This role involves collaborating with operations and maintenance to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of equipment by addressing technical issues promptly, and providing solutions to enhance system performance.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical support with domain expertise (MECHANICAL/ ELECTRICAL / CONTROLS / PROCESS) to existing Plant O&M team to resolve issues that arise in the plant requiring expertise beyond the plant level and liaising with the OEMs / Vendors for problem solving.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis teams to support investigations and reviews into plant incidents (MECHANICAL/ ELECTRICAL / CONTROLS / PROCESS) and create the solutions, contingency plans, interim containment actions and permanent resolution of the cause across the entire utility fleet including training requirements, engineering design reviews, sharing of best practices and lessons learnt. Ensure no repeat of incidents with same root cause.
- Lead the Single Point failure reviews to identify potential issues using techniques like FMEA to improve the reliability of the utilities, as well as periodic plant technical audits to identify potential issues and ensure that these are addressed like trips reduction, Alarm management, performance improvement, etc.
- Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance teams, operators, and other stakeholders in optimizing asset performance.
- Lead the Asset Life Management Planning process to evaluate residual life of the assets taking into account obsolescence matters, conversions, modifications & upgrades required to benchmark the asset to world standards. Work with different OEM’s to identify the performance improvement projects for the assets.
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and procurement teams for improvement projects scoping alignment and execution coordination.
- Ensure all improvement project activities are documented accurately and comply with safety and regulatory standards.
- Lead project execution engineering support to all Projects, including review of drawings, clarifications, customer meetings, troubleshooting. Maintain technical documentation, including manuals, procedures, and reports.
- Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance staff on best practices and lessons learned.
MAJOR CHALLENGES TO OVERCOME
- Change Management: Overcoming resistance to change and driving a culture of proactive asset management.
- Improvement projects require working with OEMs or their vendors to develop newer technology products that might involve significant cost and outside support to achieve the objectives.
- Resource Allocation: Balancing maintenance resources and budgets to optimize while considering competing priorities.
- Technical Complexity: Managing the complexity of diverse assets and their unique failure modes, requiring deep technical knowledge and expertise
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.).
- Proven experience min 7 to 10 years in operations and maintenance within the power generation industry
- Knowledge of root cause analysis methodology, using fishbone or other tools.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices.

- Strong project management skills to lead improvement projects as well as in-house projects.
