An exciting opportunity has arisen in the School of Social Sciences Education and Students team for a new Programme Administrative Assistant. Senior Programmer

The role holder will work as part of a professional service delivery team dedicated to the provision of an efficient, effective and quality driven Information Technology service to staff and students within the Corporate, Administrative, Academic Research and Learning and Teaching functions of the University.

Reporting to the Division Manager of Advanced Research Computing @Cardiff (ARCCA), you will have expertise in programming as well as an understanding of research within a computational science domain. You will deliver senior application-level support to promote and enable researchers to exploit clustered HPC systems. As a key member of the ARCCA team, you will foster collaborations and build partnerships with leading academics, both internally and with the wider external community, to enable research using techniques at the forefront of innovative high-performance computing (HPC).

You will provide a highly professional, friendly and customer focused face to the services offered by Information Services.

The role holder will take lead responsibility for:-
The specification, design, development, integration, testing and documentation of large or complex systems and their architecture, selecting the most appropriate design standards, methods and tools consistent with agreed enterprise and solution architectures and ensure they are applied effectively. You will review others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology. You will contribute to policies for the selection of architecture components. You will evaluate and undertake impact analysis on major design options and assess and manage associated risks. You will ensure that the system design balances functional, service quality and systems management requirements.
The specification of user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls. You will assess associated risks, and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures. You will assist with the translation of logical designs into physical designs.
The maintenance of application support processes, and check that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures. You will use application management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports.

The role may also involve the line-management and leadership of staff supporting technical and functional solutions and/or services in the role-holder’s technical domain.

Senior Research Technician

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced technician to cover a period of maternity leave for 12 months, predominantly to support our Palaeoclimate, Image and Geochemistry research laboratories.

You will be responsible for:
the operational management of these research lab areas- carrying out lab inductions, training staff and students in technical and clean lab procedures, maintaining stock levels, servicing, and operating analytical equipment; overseeing lab safety, assessing risk, and encouraging sustainable lab practices.
carrying out analytical work to support academic researchers, e.g. conducting palaeoclimate multi-proxy analysis using light microscopy (preparing ocean sediment samples for stable isotope and trace metal analysis), Coulter Counter (for grain size analysis) and maintaining data and archive records.
Experience in working in a research laboratory is essential.

The successful candidate will also work as part of a friendly and supportive team of technicians, supporting the wider Schools Research Facilities, carrying out PAT testing, Legionella control and safety inspections. We will provide any relevant training and support that you may require.

The opportunity
The opportunity exists for a suitably experienced candidate to contribute to support delivery and administration of sports rehabilitation and soft tissue therapy provision on the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will also be expected to support research activities and the supervision of student research project data collection and as appropriate. Completion of administrative duties and contribution to the enterprise activities of the School will be required.

Qualified to undergraduate level you should have a proven understanding of sports rehabilitation theory and practice and the ability to teach theoretical and practical techniques. You should have experience of a clinic environment and be able to rehabilitate a breadth of sports injuries.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Associate to join Cardiff’s team to help deliver the HyNTS project.

This position is funded through a Strategic Innovation Funding collaboration on the HyNTS project. The aim of the project is to investigate the compression of hydrogen for use in energy networks. It will test repurposing of existing compression equipment to determine if it could be used for 100% hydrogen transmission. 

Project partners include Cardiff University, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, Northern Gas Networks, Southern Gas Networks, DNV Services UK, Premtech and Cullum Detuners. Under the beta phase, the project has been awarded £33.3 million ($42.8 million).

Periodic trips to the FutureGrid research facility are expected, and the candidate would need to engage in and review industrially led research activities.

You will be part of a small team providing financial support and advice to both staff and students of the School of Dentistry. Your work as our Lead People Analyst will not only guide decision making but will support in empowering us as people professionals to make informed and actionable recommendations.

You’ll lead the way by:
Designing and delivering a progressive people analytical service that supports strategic decision making, shaping people practices and policy.
Being curious with data, seeking to understand the root cause of current and emerging workforce issues, nurturing improvement and innovation across the organisation.
Taking responsibility for the University’s reporting obligations such as our Staff Higher Education Statistical Analysis Return (HESA) and Gender & Ethnicity Pay Gap.
Collaborating with People Services teams to align people data with business intelligence, generating insights that can instigate change.
Managing a team of Analysts.

What we’re looking for
With superb written communication skills and experience of using data visualisation techniques, you’ll be able to craft insightful reports for a range of internal and external stakeholders. Your expertise of using business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Qlikview or SAP Analytics will enable you to analyse and articulate complex data, thinking creatively to solve problems and turn these into actionable recommendations.

It’s not just about data, it’s about people. As our Lead People Analyst, your exceptional interpersonal skills will enable you to connect with various teams, inspiring and influencing your partners to think strategically. You’ll also be able to support and develop your team to reach their potential by using a range of leadership techniques.

For this role, you’ll hold a degree equivalent qualification in Data Science or Information Technology/Computing.

This role will be predominantly on campus, with some flexibility for hybrid working.
