SUMMARY
As an OR Surgical Tech, you are crucial in the efficiency and overall success of operations. You will assist the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub tech who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures, ensuring sterilization at every point of the process.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Total of 14 Operating Room Suites, including four Endoscopic suites for advanced laparoscopic procedures. Specializing in areas such as: Ear, Nose & Throat, General, Gynecological, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastics & Reconstructive, Podiatry, Thoracic, Urology, Vascular, Colorectal and Neurosurgery/Spine. ** This unit has limited new grad opportunities.

STATUS: Full Time
LOCATION: Unity Hospital
DEPARTMENT: Operating Room (OR)
SCHEDULE: M-F Days, with on-call responsibilities which may include evenings, overnights, weekends/holidays.
REQUIREMENTS
Licensure/Certification Skills:
Completed a military surgical technology program.
-OR-
Certified Surgical Technologist certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTS) and degree in Surgical Technology required.
ATTRIBUTES
Completed a military surgical technology program -OR-
Grand-Fathering Clause: Provides evidence he or she was employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 12/31/10 – 12/31/14. -OR-
Graduated from a Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)- or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)- accredited program with a Surgical Technology major AND holds and maintains Certified Surgical Technologist certification from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)within 12 months of graduation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
CME maintenance. Must maintain at least 15 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) per year.
Supply check & sterilization. Ensure all supplies, instrumentation and equipment are available and sterilized for surgical procedures and proper operation.
Orientation. Assist in guiding medical/nursing students and technicians to the unit.
Draping & maintenance. Assist with draping procedures and demonstrates vigilance in maintaining overall sterility in the operation room.
Unit development. Help identify goals and objectives of the unit.
EDUCATION:
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist - Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
