Our vision for the Director, Public Relations at BD

The Director, Public Relations is a key member of the public relations and reputation management team, with primary responsibility for creating and implementing proactive communication strategies for high-impact or high-risk matters. This role will report to the Vice President of Public Relations and partner with senior leaders across communications and the business to develop and execute communication strategies, plans and materials to complement business objectives; improve customer, patient and consumer awareness and understanding of BD; drive the company’s relationships with and coverage in the media and protect the company’s reputation in crisis situations. This individual takes an active leadership role on issues management across the company, including recalls, litigation and other sensitive matters. 

The role also provides guidance and expertise to the business unit communicators across the BD Medical and BD Interventional segments for any high-risk or high-impact matters, particularly media relations and issues management. The role serves as a collaborative partner to six business units to identify and execute strategic communication initiatives in support of the BD purpose to advance the world of health.

The role will align with senior leadership, including business unit and segment presidents and key functional leaders, on how to best amplify and prioritize announcements and key milestones based on the current pulse of the media.

In addition, this role will require positioning complex clinical applications and/or advancements within current and future industry trends frequently covered by the media. 

Scope of Responsibility 

• Develop, manage and successfully implement comprehensive communication plans that support high-risk, high-impact matters such as mergers and acquisitions, major product launches, facility expansions, product recalls, litigation and other highly sensitive projects.

• Act as the chief lieutenant to the Vice President of Public Relations in response to crisis management issues and managing the media.

• Serve as a company spokesperson across a multitude of media outlets and other external stakeholders.

• Build proactive and reactive communication strategies that align with BD business objectives, marketing strategies and overarching company priorities to ensure positive perceptions of the company and supporting BD’s overall reputation.

• Act as primary communication counselor to segment  presidents and business leaders and advise on communication strategy for internal and external audiences.

• Develop and execute on strategic tactics that align with and complement other functions and overall BD corporate priorities, including public policy and investor relations efforts.

• Position BD experts as industry thought leaders.

• Maintain policies and procedures for communication material development, as well as build and maintain positive, effective relationships with internal business/product teams, external media contacts and public relations agencies.

• Manage and implement internal and external special events; providing and updating information for internet/intranet sites to educate internal audiences, customers, third parties and media.

• Actively manage agencies and consultants that support BD communication initiatives.

• Prepare internal stakeholders with media coaching and cohesive messaging in advance of media interviews, publicly attended/viewed forums and/or employee events.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications.

• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in communications, with at least five years of media relations and crisis communications experience.

• Proven ability to effectively communicate with an emphasis on message development with excellent writing and editing skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with a publicly traded corporation is a plus.

• Expertise in AP Style writing highly preferred.

• Experience in medical or scientific writing is a plus.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Strategic thinker with ability to assess situation(s) and counsel on best strategies to garner positive outcomes with measurable results.

• Proven ability to effectively communicate with an emphasis on message development, with excellent writing and editing skills.

• Proven ability to think independently and make sound decisions and recommendations regarding communication programs/issues/crisis communication.

• Time management skills and proven track record of handling multiple deadlines.

• Experience in drafting content, managing and convening editorial calendars and a solid understanding of social media.

Responsibilities

• Implement and provide implementation support for new product introductions and existing product changes that impact Manufacturing, using the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process and other tools/processes.

• Provide manufacturing floor operations support to include:

• Improving and maintaining manufacturing process instructions

• Supporting or leading lean efforts to improve cell layout, replenishment, 5S, standard work, visual management, and quality at the source.

• Improving and maintaining Kanban’s and other replenishment processes to ensure components are always available and properly accounted for.

• Manage labor standards/rates as tools to drive efficiency improvement and ensure accurate financial absorption.

• Maintain manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs) so that replenishment processes correctly account for parts usage in Manufacturing.

• Design and implement fixtures and processes to support manufacturing operations.

• Lead or support manufacturing refurb process improvements.

• Lead or support manufactured product quality continuous improvement efforts.

• Perform other duties assigned to meet business needs.

• Strong understanding of computer assembly and software for both new and refurbished computers will be a plus.

Experience and Educational requirements:

Responsibilities

• Propose and perform appropriate market research and VOC activities for innovation projects create need statement, assess value pool/market size, prioritized value drivers and BD ability to win.  

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitive landscape, analyze market data, VOC and VOS insights to identify areas for improvement in our product and service offerings as well as innovation opportunities.

• Propose line extensions and new products to better serve segment needs and optimize sales potential, Collaborate with the product development team to define and prioritize product features and enhancements based on market feedback and customer needs

• Support the Global Product Development System (GPDS) process as a core team member for the assigned project(s). Accountable for completion of respective marketing deliverables to ensure commercial excellence through collaborative efforts with all levels of other functional areas (e.g., R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, etc.). Use fact-based data to inform key decisions, driving timely decision-making even in the face of incomplete information.

• Lead the product launch efforts, in collaboration with downstream and region marketing team. Develop a global marketing and related launch plan that defines "how to win,” including market development, evidence generation, marketing communications and promotional strategy, content creation, pricing strategies, and customer and sales -facing associate training.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience preferred with a focus in marketing and/or product/solution management with demonstrated excellence in innovation and product development

• Ability to understand technical and clinical aspects of intravenous infusion business.

• Experience in highly matrixed environments, able to work with cross-functional teams and to lead teams beyond your direct span of control.

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer in our Medication Management Solutions (MMS) team, you will utilize your extensive knowledge and experience in Mechanical Engineering to solve both novel and complex assignments that require the development of new or improved products, techniques and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide technical leadership on multiple projects simultaneously.

• Applies engineering principles and techniques to develop engineering solutions using a variety of engineering tools.

• Performs CAD modeling of electromechanical parts, assemblies, and entire systems to support the release of new designs and creates improvements to existing designs.

• Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tasks, builds a resource plan for completion of these tasks, and tracks progress.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree and experience.

• At least 20 years related experience, or the equivalent combination of graduate-level education and experience required.

• Technical leadership experience in a highly focused cross-functional team environment on a large development project is preferred.

• Experience with mechanical CAD tools, SolidWorks, FEA, material selection, product life cycle tools, planning tools, tolerance analysis, GD&T and statistical analysis.

• Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication, plastic injection molded part design tooling and qualification, machined part design, 3D printed part design, mechatronic system design and configuration, air-flow concepts, and heat management.

• DFSS and Labview experience would be plus

• Experience in medical device industry would be plus

Position Overview

Technical Support Specialists (TSS) provide technical phone support and problem resolution for customers of Parata’s pharmacy automation solutions. TSS will instruct customers and field engineers in the basic operation and maintenance of the hardware, software and related network and database applications. Prior customer service experience and strong digital literacy are a must.

The Design Controls Process Engineer is accountable for influencing design control process activities for product development and product maintenance through the application of Quality engineering skills for medical devices. This person will support product development teams from product inception through product launch and maintenance and play an active role in the process ownership to ensure products meet quality standards consistent with both Corporate and business unit policies, while meeting all design control and other regulatory requirements.

This individual monitors internal and external regulatory observations and trends for hardware and software product development.

Responsibilities:

• Ensures Design Controls is effectively implemented across the MMS business, particularly for the Infusion Solutions Platform

• Serves as subject matter authority on Design Controls for MMS business, particularly for the Infusion Solutions Platform

• Leads continuous process improvements and partners with SME’s on key initiatives

• Ensures consistent application of design controls activities across all elements of the Quality System (e.g. CAPA, Field Actions, etc)

• Identifies IT solutions necessary to support Design Controls and works with the IT Teams to implement system solutions across BD

• Defines metrics and measures for Design Controls

• Establishes training requirements and orchestrates training for Design Controls

• Monitors performance of Design Controls and reports to senior leadership

• Monitors industry surveillance audit outcomes and takes necessary actions to align process to applicable new or revised regulatory requirements and standards

• Monitors internal and external audit observations within BD, identifies the appropriate cause and implements fixes across the enterprise for Design Controls

• Works with standards committee to monitor for external regulatory changes. Determines need for changes to policy, procedure and practices based on regulatory changes and implements where appropriate

• Supports regulatory inspections and audits

• Participate collaborative community (cross site/cross functional network of SMEs) which will support and drive change for Design Controls

Education and Experience:

• Requires a minimum of a BS/MS degree in life science, engineering or other relevant discipline.

• At least 8 years of experience in a Class I/II/III medical device with specific experience in Design Controls

• Strong mastery of FDA CFR 820.30 and ISO 14971 required.

• Familiarity with ISO 13485, IEC 62366, 60601, and 62304 desired.

• Strong background in Design Controls in relation to product design and development.

• Strong background in Software compliance requirements

• Proven ability as a change agent to drive improvements across a large organization.

• Strong technical writing experience required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reliability testing

  • Responsible for configuring machines and subsystems to match the conditions under test.

  • Assist Engineering in the creation of Product Qualification Plans (PQPs)

  • Perform product and subsystem testing as specified in the PQPs

  • Run software install managers to ensure smooth deployment to the factory and field.

  • Document the test results in an official report once the testing is complete

  • Assist in the fabrication of prototypes and other test systems.

  • Assist in the fabrication of printed circuit board assemblies and wiring harnesses.

• Test system maintenance

  • Maintain test system inventory such that Pharmacy Automation can test new software and hardware changes against the expected configurations that will be seen in the service fleet.

Experience & Education Requirements

• Two-year degree (associate's preferred) in electronics or advanced mechanical discipline or equivalent on the job experience.

• Three years’ related industry/equipment/reliability laboratory experience.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to use tools to perform mechanical work.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and a basic knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft operating systems (Windows XP, Win 10 etc.).

Reporting to Medication Management Systems (MMS) Pharmacy Automation (PA) Manager of Regulatory Affairs, the Staff Specialist of Regulatory Affairs provides regulatory expertise to MMS-PA platform. This individual facilitates the regulatory affairs activities within the MMS-PA platform. He/she contributes to the development of MMS-RA strategic and operational plans through sound assessments of regulatory pathways and risks, and sound regulatory programs. Such assessments may influence the scientific or technical direction of product design and/or development in support of worldwide registrations. The Staff Specialist of Regulatory Affairs will ensure functional excellence in regulatory activities to achieve timely worldwide clearance, approval, registration, and licensure of MMS-PA products with desired claims.  This individual will help communicate new developments in worldwide regulations affecting MMS-PA products to MMS-PA stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

• Reporting to Medication Management Systems (MMS) Pharmacy Automation (PA) Manager of Regulatory Affairs (MMS-PA) the Staff Specialist of Regulatory Affairs (RA) provides pre-market regulatory expertise to MMS-PA business.

• Facilitates the regulatory affairs activities within MMS-PA.

• Serves as a regulatory expert for labeling and promotional materials review, experimental designs, data analysis, standards and compliance, post-market activities  as they relate to registration and commercialization of PA products

• Assists in claims development and approval. As needed, reviews and approves labeling and ad/prom materials.

• Reviews product development protocols to assure collection of appropriate data for product release, regulatory submissions and regulatory compliance

• Coordinates with Quality function on compliance activities and responses to quality audit findings

About the role:

The Becton Dickinson Software Technology Solutions Division (STS) highly skilled and experienced Staff Systems Engineer to lead the development and evolution of our Cloud Data Platform. In this role, you will drive the strategy, vision, and execution of our data platform products, ensuring they meet the needs of our customers and align with our business objectives.

This position requires an enthusiastic technical leader to work across the entire stack, building highly scalable multi-tenant SaaS platform that enable measurable business growth.

Responsibilities

• Develop and articulate a clear product strategy for the Cloud Data Platform in alignment with company goals and market trends.

• Identify and prioritize key features and capabilities to enhance the platform's value proposition.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, marketing, and sales, to define and communicate product requirements.

• Work closely with key stakeholders to gather feedback and incorporate it into the product development process.

• Create and maintain a comprehensive product roadmap for the Cloud Data Platform, balancing short-term priorities with long-term strategic goals.

• Regularly communicate roadmap updates to internal teams and external stakeholders.

• Actively explore and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in cloud data platforms.

• Engage in hands-on exploration of new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to inform product development via product specs.

• Drive innovation by proposing and implementing new features and functionalities.

• Champion a user-centric approach to product development, collaborating with design teams to ensure an intuitive and seamless user experience.

• Conduct user research and gather insights to inform product decisions.

• Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and adoption of the Cloud Data Platform.

• Utilize data to make informed decisions and iterate on the product strategy.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to understand their needs and gather insights for product improvement.

• Act as a customer advocate within the organization.

Required skills and qualifications:

The ideal candidate will bring together a combination of strategic understanding, technology and process improvement experience, solution engineering skills, and the ability to communicate to all levels in an organization.

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering field or equivalent

• At least 7+ years of experience in building large-scale software applications.

• At least 7+ years of experience in Agile software development and scrum team management

• Proven track record of successfully bringing data platform products to market.

• Strong understanding of cloud technologies, data architecture, and related tools.

• Hands-on experience with exploring and evaluating emerging technologies.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

• Ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.

Educational requirements:

• Bachelors or master’s in computer science, Information Systems, or an engineering field.

• 7+ years of related experience in developing data solutions, data platform architecture, data warehouses, visualization tools, analytics delivery, and data catalogs.
