As a Health Scientist Administrator, GS-0601-14, you will be:

1. Serve as a Program Official or Contracting Officer Representative (COR) on extramural grants or contracts.
2. Provide leadership or develop partnerships with stakeholders to identify or prioritize research in related specialty fields.
3. Review clinical relevance of intramural and extramural research by the Agency or initiates efforts to apply new developments for research programs.

• Serves as the principal technical expert/advisor to the Library Director and Deputy Director regarding facilities operation and management in accordance with the ARS facility programs.
• Oversees and maintains the water systems that are unique in design and complexity for a 15-story building for potable water usage and for fire suppression by water.
• Prepares repair and maintenance proposals and facility upgrade recommendations for budget review and approval.
• Serves as the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) on contracts involving federal real property.
• Develops and maintains annual and long-range standard operation and maintenance procedures for the buildings and associated facilities.
• Plans, directs, and oversees general maintenance of the federal building and grounds.

Newly-hired mathematicians and mathematical statisticians begin their careers in the Mathematics Development Program (MDP). The goal of the three-year MDP is to provide on-the-job training in the broad range of mathematical and statistical sciences at NSA. This is primarily accomplished through 6-month tours in NSA offices of the MDP participant's choosing. Mentorship is provided for each tour and participants work on real mission problems.

MDP members also study cryptologic mathematics, statistical data mining, and related subjects in courses taught by Agency experts. Participants are required to develop skills in programming and using computational resources to solve mission problems. Various short-term and long-term travel opportunities exist for interested participants but are not required. MDP members are able to take advantage of other professional development opportunities available at NSA as well. This includes continuing education opportunities and optional Agency courses in everything from professional communication to goal setting to machine learning. Career mentorship and participation in professional networks such as WIMS (Women in the Mathematical Sciences) are strongly supported. For the Entry/Developmental work level, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas is desired but not required. Successful applicants may learn these skills at the Agency.
- Programming expertise in any language
- Experience in the design, development, use, and evaluation of mathematical models, methods and/or techniques (e.g., algorithm development)

The timeline for hiring mathematicians is quite long, commonly one to two years. We recommend applying when graduation is no more than a year out, as start dates can often flex to accommodate the needs of a successful applicant.

As a PDRA on this project, the successful applicant will be required to develop relative sea-level reconstructions over the past few hundred years from salt-marshes in Greenland using diatoms as the main proxy, alongside XRF and other stratigraphic methods. These reconstructions will be compared to relative sea-level predictions from new Greenland-wide models of ice sheet change developed by collaborators on the project from Lincoln and Northumbria Universities. The main responsibilities will be to develop new modern and fossil diatom datasets from Greenland saltmarshes and statistical and chronological models that allow quantitative relative sea-level reconstructions from sites around the west coast of Greenland. A further responsibility will be to write applications for radiocarbon dating support, to prepare data, figures and text for publication and to communicate the interim and final findings of the research at collaborator workshops and international science meetings.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in developing relative sea-level reconstructions using diatom data and application of quantitative methods of RSL reconstruction. Previous experience working in salt-marshes would be an advantage.
