About the role
The Open Access (OA) team enables one of the fastest growing areas at Springer Nature. It has responsibility for the overall OA business including business strategy, revenue, performance monitoring, business models, policies, and managing OA transition. Part of the wider commercial business, the OA group works in close coordination with both publishing and sales teams.
As Research Coordinator, you will monitor external OA policy, funding, and competitor developments, ensuring these insights are rapidly digested and disseminated to appropriate colleagues to inform Springer Nature’s open research strategy. As well as providing written reports, data analysis, and
slides, you will update and maintain Springer Nature’s OA funding and policy database. Reporting to the Research Manager, you will work closely with colleagues across the OA team and wider business to support OA strategies and initiatives.
This role is offered on a permanent basis and is located in our London or Berlin offices on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
• Monitor OA developments and identify key announcements, tracking external OA policies, funding, competitor news, etc.
• Share OA updates with the business, including through internal posts, newsletter, webinar, and educational resources
• Manage OA funding and policy database, analysing data and producing reports
• Conduct research to support OA policy and strategy projects, communicating findings through reports and presentations
• Utilise AI tools to summarise or query policy and landscape information
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
• Research and data analysis skills are a must, with strong numeracy and confidence in reading and interpreting data
• Excellent writing and presentation skills, with the ability to summarise complex information into reports
• Solid MS PowerPoint and Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate and analyse datasets and create clear and attractive slide decks
• Organised and flexible; able to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities, and to meet deadlines
• Thorough and detail-oriented, able to adhere strictly to guidance/protocol to ensure that information is highly consistent and accurate
• Good initiative and ability to work well independently and within a team
Desirable
• An understanding of academic publishing and of the Open Access publishing landscape
• Experience working in academic publishing and open access is desirable
• Experience conducting research and analysis is advantageous
