Senior Tutor (Research) - Textiles

They are seeking an outstanding Senior Researcher in Textiles to contribute towards the ongoing work of the School of Design and the College more broadly. Textiles at the College operates at the intersection of design, craft and fine art, and they actively encourage this mix of thinking to collectively challenge the role of the 21st century Textiles practitioner. Practice-led research is a fundamental intellectual framework for how our client develop textiles and materials; conceived and created by 'thinking through making', they are uncovering new insights through material and process exploration in the physical and digital domains.
The successful candidate will evidence their ongoing commitment to ensuring an inclusive and diverse curriculum at the level of postgraduate study, with the high levels of commitment and energy required by a world-leading environment. You will take on a leadership role in the shaping and delivery of curriculum within the Textiles programme, leading on the organisation of exhibitions and events and to deliver workshops, seminars, crits and tutorials, including participating in and chairing examination panels.
Supporting the Head of Programme with day-to-day academic management, administration and communication; you will encourage critical design thinking and research, assist in the development of relevant academic and industrial collaborations for research and knowledge exchange activities, and have specialist knowledge and demonstrable practical experience in textiles. Applicants with knowledge and experience of relevant new technologies, and/or material science are particularly welcomed.
Essential characteristics of the postholder:
- First degree in a relevant specialism
- A doctorate in a relevant field
- A postgraduate certificate (PGCert) in higher education and/or accredited fellow of the Higher Education Academy, or commitment to undertake appropriate training to achieve such within two years of appointment
- If supervising research students, have completed research supervision training or to undertake and complete appropriate training within two years of appointment before commencing supervision
- Commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Commitment to equality of opportunity and the ability to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds
- Evidence of the ability to supervise academic work at the master's and doctoral level
- Proven record of producing research outputs of at least 3* REF quality
