Senior Communications Manager

We are now recruiting for a Senior Communications Manager on a fixed-term, maternity cover contract for 13 months. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week and is based at the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York with hybrid working also available.

About the role

As Senior Communications Manager you will be leading the activity of the NRM and Locomotion communications team, with responsibility for delivering the communications strategy and achieving ambitious visitor numbers for both sites.

You will lead these teams in delivering engaging communications designed to celebrate a number of exciting events happening in 2025. These include the NRM's 50th birthday, the reopening of Station Hall and the bicentenary of the railways to be celebrated across both of our sites. In addition to these events, you will help to drive commercial return for our paid for offers and programmes including Wonderlab: The Bramall Gallery and the Flying Scotsman VR Experience.

Your role will be essential in setting a culture of excellence and quality in all that we do and ensuring that internal comms are in line with expectations. You will work collaboratively with web and digital teams to align with museum objectives and messages to produce joined up comms campaigns across marketing, press, digital and social. You will use insight and data to continuously improve and evaluate all campaign outcomes.

About you

Joining us, you will have significant transferable skills that are relevant to a communications leadership role or existing experience in comms leadership, marketing management or a press/PR management role. You will have a positive and proactive approach to leading teams, collaborating with others, promoting new ways of thinking and building positive relationships across a large organisation.

Crucially, you will be a good communicator with the ability to write effective, interesting and persuasive copy. You will have experience of planning and delivering integrated communications campaigns and delivering an increase in footfall or awareness raising campaigns, in addition to experience using a CRM system and email marketing.

About Us

The Conservation and Collections Care team (C&CC) support all conservation activity across the collection and are responsible for establishing and maintaining conservation and collection care standards.

We are now recruiting for a Conservation and Collections Care Manager based at the National Railway Museum in York with hybrid working available. This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week.

About the role

As the Conservation and Collections Care Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing the C&CC team in York and Shildon, including project staff and volunteers. You will develop and train staff to ensure that they can deliver conservation programmes to a high standard.

You will be planning, monitoring and delivering conservation activity at the National Railway Museum and Locomotion, including interventive and preventive programmes, to ensure museum plans and statutory requirements are met within time and budget. Ensuring the appropriate quality of all CCC work is maintained. You will be responsible for the collections hazards management on site and as such will be the site Collections Asbestos Manager and Radiation Protection supervisor.

You will communicate effectively with museum stakeholders, securing and influencing their support and contributions; identifying and resolving problems; ensuring the wider museum and CCC team is kept informed and consulted as appropriate.

About you

Joining us you will have significant experience in conservation and collections care. You will be an effective project and people manager with the ability to direct, supervise, influence, motivate and coach interdisciplinary teams including volunteers, interns and other professionals.

Crucially, you will be able to use your communication skills to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have experience of reviewing processes and workflows to find efficiencies coupled with the ability to work well in a team and generate ideas and drive workstreams forward.

About you

You will bring experience of full life-cycle project management within a construction, property, building services or infrastructure environment. With strong influencing and relationship management, you have the ability to identify risks, advocate for high standards and challenge decision making where necessary.

LOCATION

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Manages and supports actuarial function in valuing reserves for the mortgage insurance product line

• Applies traditional actuarial reserving techniques to assess reserves and conduct reviews of loss results, past and current trends to project future losses

• Lead, coach, and develop a small team of high performing actuaries. Work with each team member to deliver high quality work within their core responsibilities, continually learn about our business and industry, and expand beyond the scope of their current roles

• Develops internal and external communications, including interactions with regulatory authorities and management that will describe and support reserve changes

• Supports the development/design of new models for reserving and forecasting purposes

• Displays proficient ability to analyze SAS datasets and modeling results and test for possible data biases and errors

• Creates and reviews documentation procedures and policy documents that ensure transparent and cohesive reserving process

• Incorporates and shares best practices regarding reserving models, techniques, and research with other functions within Enact

• Responds to questions from senior leadership, auditors, consultants, and other interested parties

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related field

• Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS)

• 7+ years in finance, risk, or actuarial functions, mostly focused on reserving.

• Excellent communications skills, particularly in a collaborative cross-functional team environment including senior leaders

• Strong planning, vision setting, and organizational skills with an ability to outline initiatives and develop priorities in support of that vision.

• Critical thinking and critical thinking skills

• Proficient ability to analyze data and develop recommendations

• Attention to detail, strong focus on accuracy and ability to review actuarial processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with machine learning and predictive modeling

• Computer programming knowledge (such as SAS, VBA, or other programming language)

• Previous leadership experience

About the role
Focusing on Trusts, Foundations & Government (TFG) funders, you will support team to raise multi-million-pound income. Managing a portfolio of TFG funder accounts, you will work toward delivering long term, high-value strategic partnerships and significant renewals. You'll provide effective account management and tailored stewardship, whilst developing your own portfolio of new business prospects.

Collaborating with other Development colleagues and key project teams, you will identify opportunities to support or enhance your diverse portfolio. You will also assist the team by being organised and accurate, ensuring accurate record keeping and reporting.

Contract: Full time, Fixed term contract until May 2025 - however there may be a possibility that we can extend the contract or make the position permanent at a later point.
Locations: We can offer a hybrid working pattern from our Manchester, York or London Museums
Salary: £31,500 - £38,500 per annum, experience and location dependant.
