What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an experienced science professional who will provide a comprehensive efficient and effective range of technical support to meet the needs of the department. This will include preparation and maintenance of resources, ordering of supplies and supporting both staff and students in the classroom. You will need to be enthusiastic, flexible and confident in supporting practical work to A level. You may be required to work across all science departments, but specific departmental training will be provided where appropriate.

The post holder must at all times carry out their responsibilities within the spirit of the school and trust policies and within the framework of legislation relating to academies and education, with particular regard to the statutory responsibilities of the trust and the governing body of the school.

We have an exciting opportunity in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering, University of Sheffield for a highly motivated Research Technician, with experience in (bio)process development and/or biomanufacturing and laboratory management. On a project funded by CEPI, you will work as an integral member of the team building on our prior work and developing an end-to-end automated, continuous, compact, multi-product mRNA process-in-a-box: the RNAboxTM.

You will use your organisational, laboratory management, communication and technical skills to provide essential support to our team, led by Dr Zoltan Kis and Professor Mark Dickman, research activities and play a key role ensuring research projects are delivered to defined milestones.
You will preferably possess a good honours level degree or Higher National Diploma in a relevant scientific field, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with key awareness in the functioning of the research laboratory environment. Experimental wet-lab skills, organisational skills, thorough documentation and teamwork skills are essential.

Reviewing the feasibility of proposed clinical trials considering the pharmacy aspect. Oversight of expenditure and reimbursement for the pharmacy team for clinical trials (Research and Development (R&D)). As a clinical pharmacist within the trials team, the post-holder will ensure that all pharmaceutical aspects of clinical trials validation including digital systems are built in accordance with good clinical practice (GCP); good manufacturing practice (GMP); statutory national and international standards; and clinical need. Support the coordination of local response in a timely manner, working closely with the: clinical and research teams; Pharmacy; Sponsors; and R&D department.
