Introduction
The central Communications Office leads the communications strategy for the House of Commons. We work to improve access to - and understanding of - the work of the House of Commons, and to ensure that everyone who works here has the information they need to do their job. Our impartial, challenging, and trusted communications and counsel are at the heart of the organisation, building understanding, connection, and trust with our diverse audiences.
It is a busy but supportive team, where you will have the opportunity to develop your communications skills while delivering high profile campaigns and projects, working collaboratively with internal and external communications specialists across the House.
The Role
Are you a creative communications professional with strong marketing skills?
We are looking for an experienced Internal Communications and Marketing Manager to help ensure Members of Parliament and their staff are aware of the full range of professional advice, services and facilities provided by the House Administration to support them in fulfilling their parliamentary duties.
You will have a strong understanding of marketing principles and strategies, with experience using a range of tactics and channels, both online and offline, to deliver engaging campaigns. You will know how to use data and insight to tailor communications to different audiences and measure the impact of your work.
We are looking for a proactive self-starter, who is confident navigating a complex stakeholder environment and embedding new approaches.
You will be responsible for delivering effective internal marketing campaigns which raise awareness of how the House Administration makes Parliament happen by providing excellent services to Members.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
- Plan, implement and manage insight-driven internal marketing strategies to raise awareness of key Member services.
- Develop strategies for gathering, evaluating, and interpreting data and insights to inform our marketing campaigns and content.
- Work closely and build effective working relationships with key stakeholders, teams across the House of Commons, project and business leads and colleagues within the Communications Office, to effectively plan and coordinate communications to Members and Members' staff.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- Experience of successfully developing, implementing and evaluating internal marketing and communications campaigns, underpinned by an understanding of a range or marketing tools and how these can be adapted to target different audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex, factual information in a creative and engaging way.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high quality work to tight deadlines, while taking responsibility for resolving issues.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, effective at negotiating with and influencing colleagues, including senior leaders.
- Good political awareness, news sense and understanding of reputational risk, with a commitment to impartiality.
- The ability to work collaboratively, whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
