The Chinese Media Group (CMG) is seeking a Copywriter/Copy Editor to join its Branding & Marketing (B&M) team. The B&M team is responsible for co-developing and implementing respective CMG news brands’ strategies, as well as driving effective marketing and communication plans to create strong brand value. These news products include Lianhe Zaobao, Shin Min Daily News, ThinkChina, ZBSchools, HeyKaki, UFM100.3, 96.3 Hao FM, UWeekly etc.
As the Copywriter/Copy Editor, you will be the key to reinforcing the respective brands’ identity and tone through consistent and effective communication materials, both locally and regionally. You are expected to:
● Develop a thorough understanding of CMG and its brands’ mission and business goals.
● Ideate, craft and execute original and localized concepts in response to various campaign briefs.
● Review and approve communication material copies including but not limited to brand and product descriptions, advertisements, newsletters, content pieces (e.g. articles, videos, social media posts), press releases, event collaterals, awards entries, user surveys, and ensure copies adhere to house style guidelines and brand identity.
● Use basic analytics to test and prove effectiveness of copies.
● Establish and strengthen individual brand tone and consistent messaging across all communication channels and materials.
● Liaise with internal and external stakeholders for approval of key artwork and communication materials.
● Develop and continually update relevant assets such as copy guidelines and brand glossary.
● Support translation (English and Chinese) needs.
● Support both internal and external communication efforts by crafting and editing engaging messages, newsletters, and announcements.
● Assist in developing crisis communications plans and providing support during crisis situations.
Job Requirements
● At least 7 years of experience in copywriting and editing in media, public relations or marketing and communications related industries;
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin, as this role mainly supports Chinese products;
● Culturally attuned and have a flair for communicating with local and overseas Chinese communities;
● Experienced in handling communication materials across multiple brands or products;
● Able to digest, filter and package information into effective communication materials that resonate with target audiences;
● Confident in presentations to stakeholders;
● Familiar and comfortable with digital tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and social media;
● Highly proactive and detail-oriented with project management abilities; good news sense would be advantageous;
● Kept abreast of changes in content trends, technologies, social media landscape and consumer behaviors;
● Able to multitask with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
● Able to work independently but also connect with people and collaborate as a team.
