This is a permanent, part time position during term time starting as soon as possible.
The salary will be on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff pay scale at point 3 and the actual salary will be £5,221.

Job Overview-

We currently have the opportunity for TWO substantive consultant positions in acute and general paediatrics with an interest in High Dependency Care and is based in the Leicester Children’s Hospital at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester. The appointment will be whole time. Any Consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with Consultant colleagues.



The main focus of the post will be the providing secondary level paediatric services to children in Leicester.

• To contribute to the provision of the Acute and General Paediatric service as well as providing care to the patients admitted to HDU.
• Weekly General Paediatric outpatient clinics.
• Participate in the consultant cover and service provision for the General Paediatric Service including, Consultant of the week day time rota.
• Participate in the General Paediatric Consultant on-call service. This includes 24-7 out-of-hours cover for the Children’s Hospital.
• Lead the care of patients admitted to HDU, based on ward 12. Currently we have 6 commissioned HDU beds and plan to go up to 8 beds in the next few months.
• Promote and strengthen links with colleagues in Primary Care, including GP’s and AHP’s

CONSULTANT GENERAL OPHTHALMOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN NON-SURGICAL GLAUCOMA

Applications are invited for the permanent post of Consultant Ophthalmologist

This is permanent post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Department of Ophthalmology, Alliance Hospitals and community practices. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The appointee will have a principle interest in General Ophthalmology with an interest in Non Surgical Glaucoma and they will be expected to contribute to the general Ophthalmology and Glaucoma service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital site and associated community hospitals or GP practices. Participation on the on call rota and in the eye casualty department is essential.

The Ophthalmology Service in UHL is currently providing patient care specialising in the areas of Medical retina, Uveitis, Oculoplastics, Lacrimal, Cornea, Glaucoma, Vitreoretinal surgery, Neuro Ophthalmology and Paediatric Ophthalmology.

Applicants must already be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training.

• To be a point of escalation when the emergency department requires senior consultant advice.
• To provide Consultant Ophthalmology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
• To provide Consultant Ophthalmology services by way of Outpatient clinics and Outpatient procedure lists at the University Hospitals of Leicester and in peripheral units.
• To work flexibly and cooperatively with the other consultant Ophthalmologists to maximise the utilisation of outpatient procedure lists and outpatient clinics.
• To provide emergency Ophthalmology services to patients in Leicestershire on the on call rota
• To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance ‘Duties of a Doctor’ are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported.
• To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes To actively participate in audit.
• To work with the Clinical Management Group (CMG) team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
• To provide continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their care and for the proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
• To work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Department and CMG.
• To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust’s ‘Critical Incident Policy’, are reported in a timely manner.
• To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.
• To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and CMG.

CONSULTANT GENERAL OPHTHALMOLOGISTWITH AN INTEREST IN NON-SURGICAL GLAUCOMA

Applications are invited for the permanent post ofConsultant Ophthalmologist

This is permanent post which will enhance the current establishment of NHS and academic staff of the Department of Ophthalmology, Alliance Hospitals and community practices. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The appointee will have a principle interest in General Ophthalmology with an interest in Non Surgical Glaucoma and they will be expected to contribute to the general Ophthalmology and Glaucoma service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital site and associated community hospitals or GP practices. Participation on the on call rota and in the eye casualty department is essential.
