At RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. Serco proudly support the RAF and MoD, supplying around 20 different services onsite, from engine and aircraft maintenance, to fuelling and ground control services. RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Air Force, providing air transport and air-to-air refuelling to the RAF fleet, you will contribute enormously to the vital work carried out here. You’ll also be part of the wider team, with 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civil servants on site.
The Serco Carpenter/Joiner is responsible for the effective delivery of Carpentry tasks to support RAF Brize Norton.
Working Regime:
Mon-Fri 37 Hour week08:00 hrs -16:30 Mon -Thu (30 mins lunch)08:00 hrs
- 13:00 Fri25 Days Annual Leave + 8 Bank Holidays
Responsibilities
- Completing carpentry/joinery tasks to support RAF Brize Norton. Provide the Serco Brize Norton Engineering Operations Manager a focal point to ensure the effective delivery of Serco Station Workshops Carpentry output
- ensuring that the products and services delivered always meet the required standard and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Fabricate and repair items from approved data wooden and plastic components, jigs, fixtures and components. Techniques required, planning, mortising, drilling, jointing, sawing and sanding.
- The ability to sustain Serco Workshops ISPM 15 accreditation.
- Equipment and Machine care. Ensuring that the Customer supplied, tools and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.
- Maintaining a clear, safe, tidy, effective and efficient working environment.
- Support and assistance to colleagues performing Metalwork, Machining, Fabrication and Welding Tasks.
- Task planning, progression tracking, customer task liaison.
- Workshops Facility Building Custodian (Fire Safety Representative and book repairs to building).
- Must adhere to:
- Technical Work Procedures.
- Health &Safety Instructions.
- Serco Operating Procedures.
Must ensure that the carpentry tasks and associated task documentation is always correct, complete, “right first time
- every time.
What you need to do the job:
- At least 2 years previous Carpentry/Joiner employment.
- Ability to effectively and safely complete carpentry maintenance and rectification tasks.
- Good attention to detail, mathematical skills.
- Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to order materials, use, repair and maintain machines and tools.
- Functional IT skills to use Electronic Technical Manuals and to update Task and Maintenance Recording systems.
- Be an excellent team player with a “can-do safely” approach to work.
- Customer liaison. Must have high standards of oral and written communication skills.
Desirable skills and experience:
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) Carpentry/Joiner
Roles Responsibilities related to the role:
- Collaborate with customers, colleagues to deliver effective, efficient, “right first time every time” output to our customers.
- Ensure that all maintenance and tasks are correctly.
- Notifying the Team Leader of any condition/situation which could be a hazard to safety.
- Ensuring good maintenance practices are in place.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Quality Systems.
- Ensure appropriate cooperation with all audit activities.
- Notify the Team Leader when deficiencies emerge that require their attention in respect of safety, risk compliance and engineering standards.
- Must implement and promote a “Zero Harm” Open Reporting Safety Culture where all be willing and able to report any issue or event which they believe has or could potentially lead to a Safety risk.
- Note: Tools provided. Customer RAF Brize Norton supplies Machinery, tools, equipment and materials.
- Due to the nature of the role, you must be able to achieve MoD Security Clearance. All employees of Serco at RAF Brize Norton are required to be security cleared to SC level. If successful in your application, we would support you with the SC process.What we offer:
