The Maintenance Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the effective and efficient operation of plant equipment & machinery within the company. The role will involve problem solving equipment issues, supporting & recovering reactive breakdowns, Identifying, leading & supporting maintenance.Continuous Improvement - working on both small Kaizen to large capital projects, Completion of routine maintenance tasks, with the goal of minimising downtime and to optimising productivity.

A position has arisen for a Teaching and Technician Assistant, within the Faculty Simulation Unit. The post is located within the Tithebarn Street Building, in the School of Nursing and Allied Health and reports to the Faculty Resource Manager. The Department of Physics at the University of Liverpool is one of the worldwide construction sites for the upgrade of the Inner Tracker (ITk) for the high-luminosity upgrade of the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The ITk upgrade is a new detector for measuring the momentum and origin of charged particles emanating from the proton-proton collisions in the centre of the experiment.
The University of Liverpool will produce approximately 3000 strip hybrids, and approximately 580 strip and 500 pixel modules for the ITk. We are looking for two research technicians to take a crucial role in the production of these modules. These are highly skilled roles, crucial for the delivery of a world class detector for the LHC. The successful candidates will assemble high quality hybrids and modules, perform quality control, and record the related data to the database before preparing the items for shipping. They will work effectively as part of a team to ensure the project is delivered to schedule.
• Research technician for the construction and quality control of pixel and strip modules, during production for the ATLAS Upgrade project in the Department of Physics.
• The manufacture and assembly of high precision particle detector components.
• Occasional communication with staff and students on issues relating to the technical services, facilities, and equipment.
• A technical role supporting a large volume of varied activity in an academic department/school/institute or centralised teaching facility.
These posts coincides with the production phase of the ATLAS ITk upgrade. Subject to funding availability, there could be future possibilities of employment within the Department on other projects requiring similar skills and experience.
These roles requires the highest standard of cleanroom working disciplines to be applied. You will be required to work from formal engineering drawings and specifications. Good sensory and physical co-ordination is essential given the small scale and delicate nature of the detectors. Experience of working in a clean room environment and on wire-bonding are highly desirable.
You will have good communication skills and the ability to instruct others (e.g., students) in the production procedures. You will have a BTEC Higher (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or relevant professional experience.

• To undertake a variety of legal compliance electrical testing including emergency lighting, fire alarm and in-house servicing of equipment
• To undertake a variety of electrical repairs arising from periodic inspection and testing

An ideal candidate will have:

• Formal Apprenticeship and formal trade qualifications in an electrical field
• A City & Guilds or equivalent in electrical installations or similar
• 18th Edition IEE Wire & Regulations
• Experience of working within FM or the building maintenance industry

What you'll be doing;

• Compliance with all Veolia and H&S policies and procedures.
  
• Provide site EC&I maintenance support on a days basis.
  
• Safe isolations of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
  
• Overhaul & testing of the site's EC&I equipment
  
• Inspection, testing and service of all site electrical equipment
  
• Fixed wiring defect repair of all site electrical equipment.
  
• Fault diagnosis and resolution of EC&I problems across site.
  
• Calibration of site instrumentation equipment.
  
• Installation & commissioning of minor EC&I projects.
  
• Assist with mechanical breakdowns.
  
• Work with the site team to efficiently resolve repeat problems.
  
• Involvement in health and safety audits and improvements.
  
• Involvement in continuous improvement activities.
  
• Use of organisational CMMS system
  

What we're looking for;

• Time served as an electrical engineer.
  
• Ideally CompEx 1-4 qualified.
  
• Experienced in fault finding 4-20mA, single and 3 phase systems.
  
• Proficient in process control instruments such as control valves and level sensors.
  
• Good understanding of inverters, PID controllers and SCADA.
  
• Basic mechanical comprehension to assist with breakdowns.

Your new role
This is a 4 on 4 off rotating day and night shift role. You will be working with the Engineering team, to deliver customer satisfaction, minimisation of defects, on-time delivery and continuous flow. You will be carrying out maintenance on heavy plant and equipment.Both planned and reactive maintenance are a feature of this role as well as carrying out modifications to all types of heavy plant and equipment. You will be required to carry out fault-finding diagnosis and use those fault-finding diagnosis techniques to reduce the impact of reactive maintenance.
You will also be a part of project work, as well as working with H&S and QA departments insuring that all documentation and logs are filled out accurately.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a time-served Engineer with a HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Ideally - carry a knowledge of ABB drives and invertors, with working knowledge of PLC's, DCS' and HV networks.
Required - Full UK Driving Licence
Required - Comfortable working from heights
