Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting and advising teaching staff on the preparation and layout in teaching areas for practical exercises, running trials, demonstrations and helping students with learning activities as appropriate
• Ensuring equipment and materials prepared for lessons are to teachers' specifications, including shopping/ordering and preparing ingredients
• Advising students and staff on the safe and proper use of equipment and on the correct and safe way to carry out learning activities
• Assisting in the safety, inspection, repair and general maintenance of all resources, equipment and tools, and advising on any maintenance or inspection beyond your competence
• Understanding the subject syllabus and schemes of work in order to prepare for practical lessons adequately
• Assisting with stock keeping, ensuring that appropriate levels of stock are maintained
• Undertaking safety checks as required, including risk assessments, and complying with the requirements of Health and Safety, and other relevant legislation and school documentation
• Ensuring that all equipment and materials are stored safely, securely and in good condition
• Basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment and organising its construction, cleaning, servicing and repair

We wish to appoint a Science Technician to support our Science department

Salary Range: Band 4 FTE £28,919- £32,110. Actual starting salary £24,803 with performance based, yearly increments available

Working Hours: 37 hours per week (08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs and 08:00 – 15:30 Fri)

Working Weeks: 40 weeks (term time inclusive of insets+ 1 week)

This is a unique opportunity to join a successful academy as part of a supportive and very hard working team. We are looking for a Science Technician who is able to work positively within a team providing support for both students and staff.

The Science Technician should have the following qualities;

• Detailed knowledge of Health & Safety legislation as it relates to the work of the school
• Detailed knowledge of COSHH and ESCC regulations in relation to the safe handling and storage of chemicals
• Detailed knowledge of safe working practices in relation to the handling and usage of hazardous equipment and tools
• A sound knowledge of National Curriculum requirements (Desirable)

The appointed Science Technician will begin their BA career at The Lower Academy, but staff can be redeployed to either site dependent upon operational needs.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Science Technician to work within our busy Science department. They will provide full technician support to teaching staff, particularly in the preparation and cleaning/clearing of lessons materials.

The role requires an individual who is self-motivated, organised, pays meticulous attention to detail, has energy, enthusiasm, able to keep calm while working under pressure, the ability to prioritise and a flexible working approach. They will be approachable, have sound people skills, strong written and verbal communication together with a ‘can do’ attitude.
