Position will assist in the trade's areas of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and masonry depending on project. The selectee of this position leads a crew of lower-level co-workers (laborers) involved in the construction, repair, and upkeep of government facilities, buildings, boundary fences, roads, culverts, corrals and trails. Duties will include but not be limited to window repair and replacement, door repair and replacement, patching walls and ceilings, roof repair and replacement, fixture replacement, plumbing repair or replacement, floor installation, siding repairs, interior and exterior preparation, painting, insulating and general home maintenance. The selectee receives oral and written instructions from the General Foreman and is responsible for safely and efficiently carrying out the assigned duties and completing daily work reports. The selectee operates and maintains equipment and vehicles like farm style tractors, bobcat skid steers, backhoe's, pickup with trailers, air compressors, pneumatic hammers, plate compactors, pneumatic and steel faced compactors, motorized brooms, snow plows and pressure washers. Selectee also digs holes, mixes and pours concrete, installs drainage pipe, cleans culverts and auto gates. Uses and instructs laborers in the use of hand tools such as hammers, rakes, shovels, post hole diggers, wire stretchers, axes, saws, and wrenches. This position requires heavy physical effort to haul materials and equipment to work locations. Selectee will often work on ladders and scaffolding and will frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds or more, continually walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. The work is both indoors and outdoors and may be in temperatures up to 100 degrees and as low as negative 10 degrees in windy, snowy conditions. Work is sometimes performed in backcountry mountainous terrain that is uneven, steep, and rocky. Major Duties

Incumbent will be responsible for the leadership and daily scheduling of trail maintenance duties, minor maintenance and repair trails including but not limited to campgrounds and picnic areas. Perform and oversee the full range of hands-on, day to day trails maintenance across the park. Build trail structures, organize the transportation of trail building supplies to job sites, and oversee the upkeep of back country campsites.

Oversee or make needed repairs to damaged trail assets including but not limited to foot bridges, stairs, trail surface tread, board walks, back country pit toilets, cedar wood routed signs, turnpikes and water bars.

Incumbent will maintain trail condition standards and assist the work supervisor to stock needed supplies. Work lead ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed. Work leader will recommend operation needs to work supervisor per request.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 1800) and Grand Marais. The park encompasses 42 miles of Lake Superior shoreline and is renowned for its colorful sandstone cliffs, miles of beaches, waterfalls and streams, inland lakes, 100 miles of trails and the 1874 Au Sable Light Station. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. The area is rich in public lands and outdoor opportunities. The duty stations for these positions are in Munising and Grand Marais. Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote and isolated island in northwestern Lake Superior. With numerous lakes and native wildlife such as moose and wolves, the park offers a superb setting for recreational opportunities such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, camping, fishing, hiking and more. Isle Royale is located approximately 70 miles north of the park's administrative headquarters in Houghton, MI. The incumbent will be duty stationed on the island and is required to occupy government quarters. Rent will be paid by the incumbent based on OMB Circular 45 guidelines. Isle Royale is 99% federally-designated Wilderness with no roads, few telephones, no cellular coverage, limited amenities and limited opportunity to travel to the mainland. Internet access for personal business on government computers is permitted during non-business hours. Groceries and other supplies are delivered weekly or bi-weekly depending on incumbent's specific duty station on the island. Performs simple operational maintenance on heating, venting and air conditioning equipment by cleaning out condenser tubing, cleaning the cooling tower, inspecting, and replacing filters. Replaces toilet seats, installs soap and paper towel dispensers, unplugs sinks and toilets using a plunger. Assists in planting, transplanting, fertilizing, mulching, watering, and pruning under specific instructions and under supervision. Cleans and prepares buildings, walls, trim, and floor surfaces for painting by sanding, scraping, or wire brushing. Performs touch-up painting on tools and equipment, wood, or metal surfaces. Stains slats in park benches or on waste baskets. Paint's garbage cans, gates, signposts, and other features. Inspects, maintains, and replaces light bulbs in a variety of fixtures both inside and outside. Incumbent removes damaged portions of walls or other similar architectural features in preparation for repair of damage. Performs elementary patch work on small holes in buildings or walls. Under the direction of a higher graded worker, incumbent removes deteriorated roofing materials in preparation for reroofing. As directed and under supervision, applies new wood, asphalt, or other materials as appropriate to roof structure. Uses hand tools related to roofing repairs such as brooms, scrapers, ladders, and square shovels. Mow's lawns using large, complex industrial-type (walking and riding type) power mowers and a small domestic power mower. Performs routine maintenance and repair on equipment. • Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested.
• Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
• Provide on the job training, mentoring, and coaching to employees, volunteers, and/or interns in accordance with established procedures and practices. Answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up. Report to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems.
• Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the National Park Service (NPS), answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.

• Performs a variety of trade work including Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Water Treatment, Electrical, and Wastewater Treatment.
• Responsible for all aspects of water treatment, and water sampling to meets State and Federal permit requirements. Operates, maintains, and performs necessary repairs on a Membrane Filtration surface water treatment plant.
• Takes independent action when water quality falls below acceptable standards.
• Maintains treated water levels in the potable storage tanks. Ensures proper disinfection and operation of distribution. Gain and maintains a State of Michigan F-5 water treatment license.
• Inspects and performs necessary repairs on lift stations and wastewater collection system
• Assists with winterizing and de-winterizing water plants, wastewater plants, charging and draining intakes and distribution systems.
