What do I need?

Working closely with Contractors to successfully deliver our projects, you will have the opportunity to be based both in the office and on-site. This will require a flexible approach to working both in a team and undertaking some tasks working alone. You will also develop an understanding of our safety culture and values.

This team are based in Inverness, Aberdeen, Skye, or Argyll & Bute, and are looking for students studying electrical, mechanical, civil engineering, project management, construction management or a STEM related degree.

Eastern Green Link (EGL) Project: Is being delivered as a Joint Venture between SSENT (Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks) and NGET (National Grid Electricity Transmission). This is part of a wider portfolio of Eastern projects being executed on the Eastern Coast of the UK mainland. The EGL2 project consists of a 2GW HVDC link from Peterhead in the Northeast of Scotland to Drax at Wren Hall in North Yorkshire, England, with associated AC onshore works. We are looking for summer placement students to help ensure safe and sustainable delivery of scope elements on time and within budget.

Job Purpose Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Planning and Performance Officer (Risk) in the Planning and Performance Team.

The role of the team is to develop and implement business planning processes within NatureScot and develop plans and reports for publication. The team plays a key role in supporting the Senior Leadership Team with risk management, performance measurement and, working with finance colleagues, the capture and analysis of key financial metrics.

Over the next couple of years, the team will co-ordinate the development of a new corporate plan and work on further embedding the new 90 days business planning process which is a key part of NatureScot’s organisational development strategy.

Reporting to the Planning and Performance Manager (PPM), the postholder will have an exciting role to play in supporting the PPM in building on the work in hand to capture business planning processes as is – alongside a desired future state – to inform the development of a new business planning tool. The post holder will have specific responsibility for developing the approach to risk management and analysis through the system. Whilst specific digital development knowledge is not required a general appreciation of, and interest in, digital development and a keen interest in new and emerging technologies such as cloud computing and AI will be an advantage.

• Has obtained, or willing to obtain, a recognised risk management qualification equivalent to SCQF Level 6 or above.
• Knowledge on NatureScot’s business planning systems and a strong understanding of the wider aims of the organisation and its operating environment
• Highly skilled in MS office software particularly Excel.
• Knowledge of the principles and practice of project and programme management with the ability to lead workstreams/sprints in new projects and programmes of change.
• In depth knowledge of the principles and practice of risk management and how these can be applied to business planning and financial governance.
• Experience of business analysis and process management techniques.
• Well developed communication skills with an ability to present complex risk management and business planning information to a wide variety of audiences including Director level.
• Technologically literate with an appreciation of the potential in new cloud based technologies and the confidence to work with colleagues in technology based functions to improve existing in-house software.

Role Requirements

• Maintain and develop systems for the capture and analysis of NatureScot business plans
• Lead on the risk reporting to support the 90 day business planning process
• Lead on the risk management aspects of Audit and Risk Committee papers including horizon scanning, activity monitoring and risk action plan updates
• Lead development of the risk aspects of the business plan
• Responsible for developing risk planning strategy, processes and guidance
• Working with IT develop and maintain reports from NatureScot’s Business Planning systems in Power BI
• Provide advice to Finance and Planning & Performance colleagues on risk processes, liaising with finance colleagues as appropriate.

Job Purpose: The postholder will be the dedicated project lead officer, working closely with and reporting to the Partner Skills Board and Workforce for the Future Portfolio lead(s), and responsible for the:

• Provision of sector skills intelligence and data which is place-based (Highland) appropriate.

Reporting to the Project Director of Large Capital Delivery for Connections (SHEPD), you'll be managing Large Capital & Connections Projects for the Networks business throughout the North of Scotland.

There are two roles available covering projects either in Shetland or the Caithness area in the North of Scotland. Any applicant must be prepared to travel to one or the other of these areas.

In this role, you will have responsibility for:

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Competent using Microsoft Windows, Outlook and Office applications and a background in Operations/Project Management.

- Experience of developing, managing and reporting on multi million pound project budgets and an understanding of developing a project programme and timescales associated with project delivery and construction activities.

- Be familiar with construction health and safety requirements with a knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other key relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

- An operational understanding of electrical networks gained within the Distribution and/or Transmission businesses.

- Experience of the NEC3 Suite of Contracts, with a focus on the Engineering and Construction and Professional Services Contracts.

This role will involve working away from your base location, a full UK driving licence is essential.
