Hays is the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades and support staff. In this role, you will be working for HMPPS as a Prison Security Escort at HMYOI Deerbolt.


Your new role
You will be responsible for:

• Documentation of Contractors' tools and equipment
• Escorting Contractors to their area of work ensuring all security gates/doors and locked accordingly
• Ensuring the safe keeping of the contractors and their tools and equipment whilst work is being carried out
• Escorting Contractors back to the main gate of the prison ensuring all security gates/doors are locked accordingly
• Documentation of Contractors contractor's tools and equipment upon leaving the establishment to ensure nothing has been misplaced.

You will be flexibly deployed to provide a range of other support service activities within operational areas of an establishment when required. This is an operational support job with no line management responsibilities.

What you'll need to succeed
You do not require any previous experience or qualifications for this role. You just need to be security conscious, able to challenge potential compromises of risk, and be reliable. Please note this role does not require you to drive.

Working hours are typically Monday to Friday, 7:45am till 4:45pm with a 1-hour unpaid break. These hours may differ slightly with different projects and establishments.

What you'll get in return
You will be paid weekly, with a premium rate of £11.44 per hour. You will receive all the relevant training for this role and have the opportunity to gain experience in a prison environment which will enhance your chances of gaining permanent employment with the MOJ direct.
Working hours are typically Monday to Friday, 7:45am till 4:45pm with a 1-hour unpaid break. These hours may differ slightly with different projects and establishments.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a uniformed specialist security service. Ensuring that patients, visitors and staff are given advice and provided with a safe and secure environment in line with legislation and particularly in emergency situations. This will include communication with emergency services. The post holder will aid protecting people and property, detecting and preventing crime including operating and controlling an access control, CCTV and key control systems. They will fully and satisfactorily complete all of the tasks and duties on site as defined within the published Assignment Instructions (AI's) and proactively refer to and review the published Assignment Instructions, thus familiarising oneself with any changes in order to suggest additional amendments that will improve or enhance the current level of service. In addition, fundamental to the role will be dealing with issues regarding challenging particular patients, visitors and staff, where difficult circumstances prevail (e.g., smokers, abuse issues both verbal and physical and unwelcome visitors). The Group has a policy and guidance for the prevention and management of violent and abusive behaviour, this role will involve aiding in applying the appropriate techniques including the supervised restraint of patients using agreed methods and protocols. All post holder must be compliant with Industry and Statutory Legislation and are required to hold or obtain a front-line licence in either Security Guarding or Door Supervision), which must be worn at all times whilst carrying out your duties. The duties conducted by this post holder requires a CCTV SIA Licence. There are also additional courses that are contractually required including Prevention & Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training.
