GENERAL FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for managing escalation of complex employee relations matters and providing support for employment-related litigation, charges, and claims. Advises and assists HR and business leaders and manages outside counsel relationships accordingly. Serves as legal professional supporting HR compliance efforts, including monitoring employment law and regulatory developments, policy updates, audits, and training. This position reports to an Associate General Counsel – Employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage requests for and provide advice and guidance to HR and people leaders on policies, practices, and employment matters, such as terminations, investigations, disability accommodations, performance management and RIFs/reorganizations, to achieve business objectives and effectively assess and manage risk
Draft, review and/or revise employment-related documents, such as corrective action, performance, and termination documentation, separation and other agreements, HR policies, etc.
Case management for employment-related lawsuits, charges, and claims, including coordinating with in-house and outside counsel, conducting initial fact gathering, implementing, maintaining and closing out litigation holds, identifying and gathering responsive documents and information, scheduling and participating in witness interviews, reviewing discovery, pleadings, and other case documentation, and facilitating the initiation and completion of internal processes for settlement/resolution of claims
Analyze and report on outside spend, budgets, and claims metrics
Analyze and respond to employment-related third-party subpoenas and other requests for records, including identifying and gathering responsive documents and information
Conduct or coordinate research on employment law/HR issues (e.g., non-competition agreements, wage and hour questions, leaves/accommodations) and formulate practical, business-oriented recommendations
Monitor trends in employment law/HR compliance and identify, develop and coordinate opportunities to improve employment-related policies and practices, including policy updates, audits, and training
Support cross-functional projects as an employment law/compliance resource
Act as a resource to other functions (HR, Finance, IT, etc.) and business units on legal policies/procedures, as necessary
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required
Paralegal and/or HR certifications preferred
Juris Doctorate degree a plus
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· 4+ years of relevant employment law, employee relations and/or HR compliance experience in a law firm environment and/or in-house legal providing advice on employment law issues
· Experience managing lawsuits, charges, and claims (i.e., litigation holds, document collection and review, discovery, outside counsel management).
· Experience in employment law/HR compliance matters (i.e., wage and hour practices, leaves and accommodations, background checks, worker classification, performance management) a plus.
· Solid understanding of employment laws and regulations, including federal and state anti-discrimination laws
· Knowledgeable of the evolving employment law landscape and legislative activity that impacts the employer-employee working relationship
· Ability to collaborate with other Legal, HR and business stakeholders regularly. Demonstrated ability to partner effectively in a team environment and quickly establish credibility with internal clients, particularly HR and business and/or functional leadership.
· Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate appropriately with employees at all levels of the organization, outside counsel, and third parties
· Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment effectively.
· Tech savvy with excellent presentation, training and people skills
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
· Demonstrated ability to resolve escalated issues from HR
· Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks based upon deadline, significance, and client need; escalates issues when appropriate
· Excellent business and legal judgment; ability to assess benefits and risks of strategies in litigation and advice/counsel matters
· Proficient at electronic legal research; able to synthesize findings and formulate recommendations
· Proficient with matter management and electronic billing; ability to monitor budgets from outside counsel
· Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and organizational skills
· Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain positive attitude in a fast paced, challenging environment
