The purpose of the role is to lead on the screening of planning applications received by the council and to co-ordinate the Environmental Health and Community Safety response. This includes coordinating appropriate attendance at Development Committee Screening meetings and Committee meetings as required.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Service Lead on matters relating to air quality.
Oversee the operation and calibration of atmospheric pollution monitoring stations(s) and review the monitoring programme/network.
Undertake the inspection and monitoring of premises in accordance with the provisions of environmental permitting regulations and any future legislation covering the same, drafting and issuing permits and undertaking enforcement action if necessary.
Deal with complex matters such as audits, regulatory returns, reports and complaints arising around relevant areas of environmental health legislation.



Qualifications:

BSc/Diploma in Environmental Health and EHORB Certificate of Registration or other relevant science or maths degree or equivalent professional qualification in the field of noise/air quality monitoring or contaminated land.
Able to demonstrate up to date training and knowledge through CPD certificates.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
A minimum of five years Local Government experience in the area of noise/air quality monitoring or contaminated land.
Experience of managing complex projects and heavy workloads.
Possess good project and team management skills.
Experience of providing evidence-based policy advice to decision makers.
Practical experience of researching, preparing and conducting campaigns/educational initiatives.
Knowledge of Environmental Health and the issues which affect Environmental Health policy.
Practical experience in general environmental health enforcement.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).

In this role you will be responsible for the technical management, maintenance and compliance with regulatory standards of assigned vessels within the contract. Customers:

- Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all assigned vessels, monitoring performance and assisting with other vessels as necessary.
- Monitoring of Class and Flag Survey and Certification status, arranging timely preparation and conduct of surveys as required. Maintaining assigned vessels regulatory compliance at all times.
- Preparation and conduct of MoD Authority surveys and inspections as may be necessary.
- Assessment, monitoring and timely rectification of vessel defects in alignment with Company policies.
- Fully utilising, and monitoring compliance with, the Companies planned maintenance and purchasing systems.
- Arrangement and control of Contractors, acting as Authorising Person as necessary on Company vessels.
- Planning, preparation and management of vessel dry-docking and afloat repair periods, including drawing up of repair specifications suitable for tender and liaison with Class and Flag. Supervision may require on-site attendance at out of port repair facilities for prolonged periods from time to time.
- Assisting in the raising and progressing to delivery of goods and services requisitions in alignment with purchasing policy.
- Ensuring continuity of department service delivery in times of absence, by full and effective hand-over.
- Deputising for other Superintendents or the Technical Manager in times of absence, and undertaking other tasks as may be delegated from time to time. Ensuring Contract and Operations Managers and DPA are kept appraised of any matter effecting safety or operational delivery.

We are looking for a skilled and versatile teacher of Design and Technology to join us from September 2023. You will be joining a dynamic and well-equipped department that covers a wide range of disciplines. You will be teaching a range of year groups (including A Level if you are able to deliver electronics and design engineering content). The Design and Technology department at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School is a well-resourced and modern department. It comprises 3, fully-equipped teaching areas, a new food room, 2 computer suites incorporating 2 laser cutters, and a technicians’ room. There is a dedicated sixth-form engineering area that contains CNC machines and a 3D printer.

Staff currently deliver the full D&T curriculum to all year groups and are adaptable to cover all aspects of the syllabus.

Students have the opportunity to study a rich and challenging curriculum where they experience first-hand a range of techniques and processes through a series of design-and-make units. Digital technology is a key element in many of the units utilising CAD CAM to design, develop and manufacture as well as incorporating embedded micro controllers.

At KS3, the curriculum helps prepare students to be independent, critical thinkers who can adapt their knowledge and understanding to different design situations. There is a healthy uptake for GCSE Design and Technology (OCR J310) where students engage in challenging systems-based project work. Pupils can progress further and take A-level D&T (OCR Design Engineering H404 or Product Design H406). Throughout this course, students are given opportunities to become more independent learners to prepare them for their ongoing careers.
