More detail about the role The RRDN Operations Director is the Senior Officer responsible for the operational services of the RRDN. These services are delivered for the RRDN, partner organisations and research funders, with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the life sciences industry (across both commercial contract and commercial collaborative research). These services include Study Support, Agile Research Support, regional support for Active National Delivery, Financial Management and Business Operations. The RRDN Operations Director line manages the Service/Team Leaders for the defined operational services. The purpose of the RDN is to support the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy. The RRDN Operations Director is responsible for ensuring research sites have an appropriate level of funding to support and deliver the core NHS service support activities, in line with agreed funding principles. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

* Technical and H&S auditing of field operatives using our auditing systems and processes

* To provide coaching, mentoring and support to action owners, and provide authoritative advice on the close out of actions

* To assist the Lead Technical Auditor in the delivery of health and safety initiatives throughout the group

* To assist the Lead Technical Auditor in developing processes, procedures, forms and documents as required

* Use company systems to find and report on compliance

* To provide support and guidance to operational managers with regards to forms, templates and accurate completion of any required HSEQ information, such as during incident investigation

* Provide support and guidance to field operatives as required

* To provide concise, factual and accurate information through status reports to the Lead Technical Auditor ensuring all information is available to enable effective decisions and improvements to be made

* To carry out a skills assessment and specific audits on all newly joined engineers

* Keep up to date with changes to trade and health and safety legislation

* Assist operational managers with training/ testing of operatives for safety compliance, such as face-fit, safe isolation, etc.

Senior Scientific Software Engineer needed in Exeter £390per day ref 1257028

The Met Office is looking for a contractor to develop platforms and associated infrastructure to support research, development and learning in the area of data science, machine learning, and earth observation. The key aim of these platform is to enable collaboration between partner organisations, with easy sharing of data, code and other assets in a robust, secure way. The person doing this work will explore creating such platforms using different hosts e.g. different cloud providers, private clusters, HPC including Monsoon , in a reproducible, reusable way using relevant “Infrastructure as code” (IaC) and DevOps tools and techniques. A key part of the work will be understanding, documenting and testing the requirements of users of these platforms, and understanding the challenges associated with creating, using and sharing environmental datasets. This role will combine elements of the infrastructure engineer, technical architect and software developer to deliver the desired outputs.

Responsibilities:

• Gather requirements for platforms and infrastructure for TDSA (data science) projects and hackathons
• Develop shared software environments (e.g. docker containers, conda environments) to support these platforms and hackathons.
• Develop trial implementations on cloud platforms, primarily AWS and Azure, and private linux compute clusters.
• Support testing of platforms by supporting trial projects and events
• Put relevant and appropriate security measures in place to protect data and other assets.
