Benfield School is looking to recruit to the role of Head of Design Technology. We've recently taken the opportunity to separate Art and Textiles from Design Technology to create a new department which will support vocational and academic qualifications. This creates an amazing chance to shape the role and make your mark. The department has the use of a food technology room, a workshop and additional classroom teaching spaces.

Your work will include developing and implementing methods of assessment, whilst ensuring the delivery of a curriculum that's engaging and meets the needs of all learners.

We are looking for someone who can inspire and influence and;

• Can evidence designing and teaching effective lessons that are personalised to learner needs.
• Has experience of contributing to the design, delivery and evaluation of a department's curriculum.
• Can work well as a team with other staff, communicating to a variety of audiences.

Bromford is seeking an experienced technical manager to join our technical delivery team, overseeing all aspects of our residential development projects. From pre-planning to post-completion, you'll ensure our projects deliver high-quality homes on time and within budget. Reporting to a senior technical manager, you'll play a key role in managing multiple projects simultaneously, while providing leadership and support to the wider team.

Your role involves coordinating with utility providers to secure approved designs, overseeing pre-start works such as ecology studies and site investigations to ensure projects commence on schedule, and managing the technical design process to resolve issues within budget and timeline constraints. You will liaise with local authorities to obtain necessary approvals for highways, drainage, and building control compliance, while ensuring all planning conditions and obligations are met in accordance with Bromford’s CDM procedures. Additionally, you will procure, appoint, and manage external design consultants to guarantee timely and quality delivery of all design aspects, attend external design meetings to apply best practices and lessons learned across projects, and deputise for the senior technical manager when needed, contributing to board reports.

This role is permanent and full time. You will be based from our Chipping Sodbury office with regular travel across our south geography for site visits and external meetings. A basic DBS and consumer check is required as well as a full driving licence and access to a car.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Significant experience working with contractors, developers, or house builders at a regional level, particularly in residential housing projects
• Strong background in design, construction, and delivery, with a proven ability to manage and deliver engineering solutions
• Experience managing design processes, establishing technical budgets, and critiquing development layouts
• Degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; industry-specific HND/HNC also considered
• Relevant training in CDM 2015 duties and temporary works coordination is essential

Skills & Knowledge:

• Deep understanding of new build residential development, building techniques, and statutory compliance requirements
• Proficient in IT, with knowledge of software such as Viewpoint 4P/Conject, MS Office, and AutoCAD
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with incomplete information, providing solutions to challenges as they arise
• Excellent communication skills, capable of building strong relationships both within Bromford and with external stakeholders
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and experience supporting project teams with technical matters such as Building Control, Highways, and Drainage

Soft Landing Manager (Technical Services)

Sodexo has a great opportunity for a Soft Landing Manager to join our established team working with our clients based in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Joining our team at their large site, you will provide coordination & mobilisation of FM services and delivery of Hard FM engineering project works and manage commercial risks associated with costs and the agreed form of contract, set out any identifiable risks, share with management team and allocate appropriate Risk owners.

The Soft Landing Manager will support segments in a professional manner, aiding decision making, cost management and governance, review project requests, analyse information and support with end to end cost management duties, including feasibility estimates, value engineering & cost control and support with contract administration duties, including interim valuations, variation/change control procedures, final account preparation and issuing of all required certificates under the contract.

You will prepare the tender and contract documents such as asset management & possible future projects, negotiate with contractors and clients around project costs; verifying actual costs vs set our budgets, liaise with clients, end users, accounts, operations & senior team colleagues to ensure works meet all legal & compliance standards to deliver on the key stages of the BSRIA Soft Landing process.

Soft Landings requires the team to be fully aware of the project’s success criteria. It also requires the facilities manager and the end users’ representative to be much more closely involved in the project, especially in the decisions which affect operation and management of the delivered building.

Soft Landings is a mindset; delivering better buildings by setting requirements at the start of the project, and then maintaining the focus on those throughout the project from inception to completion and beyond. Soft Landings should not be seen as yet another burden for delivery teams to deal with, on top of all their other duties. Instead, it should be seen as complementary to existing processes, highlighting existing activities which can be used to ensure that the client’s success criteria are kept in focus and achieved

About You

Experience and knowledge requirement for this role:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in construction / Hard maintenance environment
