The Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CV/Interventional) operates within the Department of Vascular Surgery independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the coordination and performance of angiographic procedures, complex vascular, non-vascular and therapeutic procedures. These exams are performed with and without contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies so that proper diagnosis and treatment will be delivered.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assist to maintain control of the Vascular Interventional Department by coordinating, organizing, executing the work potential for expediting workflow patterns within the department. Organizes in-service meetings, ordering of new equipment and supplies, trains all new technologist, creates procedure schedules, assist in the operative planning for patients, scheduling of exams and procedures, conducts morning huddles, assigns workflow to ensure proper staffing for procedures schedule in the IR or Operating Room, coordinates with Vendors for supplies and equipment for procedures.

The radiographer must have knowledge of these contrast mediums and know their effects and adverse reactions. Improper use or administration of the contrast can run the risk of patient mortality; therefore, it is essential that a thorough understanding of usage be possessed by those who prepare it. Must continuously be alert to the patient's condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment. Incumbent works closely with the other technologists, radiologists, clinicians, and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic exam results, and patient satisfaction are achieved.
• Performs as a scrub technologist or circulating technologist while assisting the Vascular Surgeon and have knowledge of sterile technique. Depending on the procedure can recognize allergic reactions and initiate CPR (cardiovascular resuscitation). Properly applies pressure/dressing to avoid hematoma formation after interventional studies. Has knowledge of vascular systems and major vessels. Technologist is knowledgeable in the use of the specialized equipment employed for digital subtraction systems and Interventional procedures.
• Ensures that all documentation required for the completion of exams is done in VISTA/CPRS. The radiographer must be certain patient identification and requests are identical. Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist. If deletion from Vista is required, the proper documentation must be presented for the deletion of images from the medical record through the supervisor or PACS/ADPAC Coordinator.
• Continuously works to develop a cohesive and effective team with other areas of the entire facility to expedite quality patient care.
• Maximize efficiency in the number of exams performed without compromising the quality of patient care.

• Serves as a primary care manager and member of a collaborative health care team within a Primary Care (PC) Department in the Directorate of Health Care Services)
• Performs professional medical screening, diagnostic, and treatment services to assigned military personnel and eligible civilian beneficiaries of a DHA aligned Health Clinic
• Determines primary care needs of patients and generates referrals to for specialty care when necessary
• Examines patients and performs initial patient work-up and assessment of patients' care and treatment; and determines the need for and orders laboratory tests, x-rays and other procedures necessary to complete assessment of the patient
• Assesses real and potential health hazards and current health status, discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems
• Provides a full range of emergency series or crises interventions including lifesaving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient within the scope of practice and approved protocols
• Provides assistance in training of staff personnel
• Participates in the clinic's quality improvement program peer review program

Starting at $105,575 Per Year (GS 12)

• Ensure that procedures assessments and inspections are implemented, and safety risk assessment codes are assigned to orders.
• Advise management, workers, and unions on safety requirements and potential incident causing situations and methods and techniques for preventing mishaps.
• Monitor effectiveness of safety promotional, educational and seasonal campaigns designed to meet both general and specific goals of reducing mishaps occurrences.
• Assist the Garrison with the development and implementation of Army Safety and Occupational Health Management System.
• Investigate all extensive property damage incidents and mishaps, all temporary or totally disabling injuries, illness and all fatalities.
• Serve as an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the implementation of the USAG Fort Jackson Safety and Occupational Health Management System program integrator.
