A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.


The successful applicant will be expected, in collaboration with the other radiologists in the department, to oversee and ensure the provision of high quality clinical services within the Radiology Department. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic radiology service, including CT, ultrasound and MRI. Experience in musculoskeletal imaging is essential and additional expertise in undertaking CT and ultrasound-guided interventional procedures is desirable. In addition to specialist lists, the post will contain general diagnostic sessions in MR, CT, ultrasound and plain film reporting. Participation in training and quality improvement activity would also be expected.

The post-holder will also participate in a full-time diagnostic on-call rota (approximately 1:15), alongside regular weekend working (with time off in-lieu).

It is expected that applicants will have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.

A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities which includes 9 PAs for direct clinical care and 1 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting. On-call commitment is not required but can be discussed with the Care Group Lead. This post also includes teaching of undergraduates and radiology registrars in the department.

The diagnostic on-call is overseen by a single consultant with the support of a second consultant radiologist on weekends. Each week on call and weekend working is compensated by time in lieu during the week. The post-holder can expect up to approximately 5 weekends (on-call/second consultant) per year. The department is currently exploring how to address 7 day working. In the future, further sessional working in the evenings and at the weekend on a rotational basis may also be required.

This is a fixed term contract. Each job plan will be reviewed within 3 months of appointment and will be subject to change. Whilst it is likely that most of the sessions will be based at St George’s, some evening working and lists at either the Nelson or Queen Mary’s Roehampton may be needed

There is a monthly departmental consultant only meeting which alternates between Mondays and Tuesdays at 1pm. A Radiology Care Group Meeting held on the third Monday of the month. The management team meetings consists of all consultants, the Superintendent radiographer, General Managers, the PACs manager, clerical manager, nursing sister and SpR representative with superintendent radiographers also attending the Care Group meetings. This is an opportunity for information to be disseminated and for all views to be taken account of. It is a significant factor in the smooth running of the Department, which operates on a system of discussion and agreement. The Clinical Lead is elected by the Department for a three-year term renewable for a second term. The current Care Group Lead is Dr Rhianydd Williams who took up this post in January 2024. Each modality has a Lead Radiologist who works together with the Superintendent Radiographer to help manage the day-to-day service.

Although very busy there is excellent team working within the department and patient satisfaction on a recent survey was very high. There are regular multi-disciplinary meetings and audit meetings within the department.

Shared office space and secretarial support will be provided.

The applicant would be expected to join the existing radiologists in providing a comprehensive cross-sectional and diagnostic radiology service. The post-holder will help support the running of service at our community diagnostic hub at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton and in our main department at St George’s Hospital.

Locum Consultant Breast Oncoplastic Surgeon

Full Time – 10PAs

1 x Post is for 12 months

1 x Post is for 18 months.

· To provide specialist level of care to all patients referred to Guy’s Breast unit with all aspects of Breast disorders / diseases or at increased risk of breast cancer.

· The post is a clinical post however the successful candidate should have research and teaching and managerial experience and actively take part in these activities

· The candidate is expected to actively participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and education.

· To participate in day to day management of the department

Each year the Breast Unit at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital treats over 450 new cases of breast cancer. The aspiration of the Unit is to diagnose patients in a timely and sensitive manner and guide them through a seamless pathway with availability state of the art breast surgery, customised reconstruction when necessary and multidisciplinary oncological involvement so that as many as possible are able to participate in randomised trials and clinical research.

Symptomatic cases are derived from One-stop clinicsbased at Guy’s andatUHL (outreach clinics). NHSBSP (screening) cases are assessed at SE London Screening Centre (KCH) or through remote MDMs and then seen by the Guy’s Team, given the diagnosis and the treatment is carried out at Guy’s. One-stop clinics are supported by our registrars and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The aim is to assess all referred symptomatic referrals within10 daysand to give cancer cases their definitive diagnosis and treatment planas swiftly as possible after. To this end there are two multidisciplinary meetings every week, with results clinics being supported bya team ofbreast care nurses.

Experience in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery is essential as are any additional qualifications in these fields, to support a busy service. A higher research qualification / experience is also desirable to help strengthen the research portfolio.

Clinical:

The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Breast services to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to include:

(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centers or clinics or other premises as required.

(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

Teaching:

All consultants are expected to take part in undergraduate teaching during their normal clinical work.

Consultants taking on additional teaching responsibilities will have time allocated for these in their job plan.

Training:

All consultants will be expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in training, including the role of Educational Supervisorin the educational contracts for junior staff in the specialty. The post holder will also be responsible for the management of the FY2s within the service.

Research:

Consultants are encouraged to become involved in clinical research. Clinical research undertaken as part of the trust research and development program will be allocated specific time in a consultant’s job plan. Consideration will be given to the support required for any research agreed as part of the job plan.
