University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a full time Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) with a specialist interest in skin cancer This appointment is part of an expansion plan within our department aimed at addressing increased demand for our regional specialist service. The 10.75 session post is for 12 months in the first instance but consideration of converting to a substantive position will be given after this period.

The applicant will be expected to form an integral part of the established OMFS Service. They should have broad experience of treating the full remit of our specialty’s work but this post has a particular emphasis on management of skin cancer. The post is part funded by the dermatology service which our department works collaboratively with. The applicant should be prepared to contribute to working with both the head & neck and skin MDTs. A fellowship in skin cancer would be considered desirable to address the complex case mix within our department.

The position has scope to be part of the Pan Avon on-call rota at a 1:8 level with doubly qualified StRs and dentally qualified DCT forming the first two tiers of the rota. The applicant should therefore be experienced in the whole remit of OMFS trauma and would be expected to contribute to trauma management.

The successful applicant will be a doctor wishing to develop their skills and knowledge of general medicine. The successful appointee will join the general medical team delivering high quality General Internal and Acute Medical Care to our patients. The post will support the care of General Internal Medicine in-patients on our General Internal Medicine ward and our multiple different outlying wards within the hospital. The post will also provide rotational opportunities to work on our Medicine Wards, this will include possible opportunities to work within Diabetes and Endocrine and/or Respiratory.

Clinical: ward-based duties to include routine review of patients, progressing care, prescribing, requesting and evaluating relevant tests, liaising with all medical and allied health professionals. There will also be opportunities for a clinic commitment with the Acute Medicine Clinic.

Education: there are educational opportunities throughout the working week including educational meetings, general medical grand round and core training.

This post would give excellent experience prior to an application for higher training in Respiratory or Acute Medicine. Clinical and Supervision

We seek to appoint a whole time (10 PA) Consultant in Adult Cardiac Anaesthesia & Critical Care to start in Spring 2025. This is due to a retirement in the team.

The cardiac anaesthesia group provide a service covering adult cardiac surgery, adult congenital heart surgery, cardiac intensive care and an expanding commitment to cardiology and ACHD, which includes complex PCI, electrophysiology and transcatheter valves. The cardiac anaesthetic group provide a trans-oesophageal echo service within cardiac theatres and intensive care.

The group run a ring fenced 10 bed cardiac intensive care unit within the trusts larger 55 bed critical care capacity. On weekdays the group cover 3 cardiac theatres at least one catheter lab and a preoperative assessment clinic as well as a 24/7 emergency cardiac surgery service.

The contract will be held with the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS FT.

The appointee is expected to maintain accreditation and CPD as required by the GMC and Royal College of Anaesthetists. This will be supported by funded study leave.

Prospective candidates should hold the FRCA or an equivalent qualification. They must be experienced in trans-oesophageal echocardiography and hold recognised accreditation. The successful candidate must be experienced in cardiac anaesthesia, anaesthesia for adult congenital heart disease surgery and anaesthesia for cardiac cath lab procedures.

The candidate should be experienced in the postoperative management of patients on cardiac intensive care.

Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine (ST4+) –80:20Research

The posts provide an ideal opportunity for the successful candidates to develop their own specialist interests while working in a busy inner city university hospital, with teaching and research responsibilities and are based in the adult side of the department.

Clinical

The reception, diagnosis and emergency treatment of patients presenting to the adult Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be given supervision and support from senior medical staff to develop competency in the autonomous clinical management of these patients whilst ensuring patient safety. This post is based in the adult Emergency Department and no sessions will be undertaken in the paediatric Emergency Department.

There is close liaison between ED and ICU at BRI. Patients referred to Specialist Units within the hospital are the responsibility of that specialist team, who will see the patient in the Emergency Department and arrange appropriate care. However, medical and nursing staff in the ED are responsible for any emergency care necessary. This shared care is seamless and collaborative.

Managerial

The management responsibility of the post holder will be to the Clinical Director who is responsible to the Chief Executive and Trust Board.

They will contribute to the supervision of our junior medical staff, teaching to undergraduate medical students and welcoming professional visitors to our team. The model of care provided by our Medicine for older people service continues to develop and expand which makes it an exciting time to join team. The post holder will be expected to comply with all relevant trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This will include working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specific process for the management of patients that do not attend their appointment or admission and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are expected to work with the service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure both clinical, national and local priorities are achieved.

The South West Capital team manages significant capital resource for the region. This includes c.£1.0 billion of system operational capital and national programme capital for 2024/25. The role is a key part of the South West Regional Finance Directorate, delivering support to system, commissioner and provider organisations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day reporting and monitoring of the regional capital programme, in addition to other strategic finance work as required. They will provide support to the Senior Finance Manager and Deputy Head of Finance. There will also be line management responsibility for an additional member of the Capital team.

Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within the health and social care environment, is key. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and be familiar with accounting software, such as Oracle and Oracle Business Intelligence. Excellent attention to detail, a clear communication style and an ability to develop good working relationships are further attributes that are essential to succeed in this role.
