A Vacancy at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join our expanding team of physicists and technologists. You will work across our hospital sites including Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals and occasional visits to our Clacton Community Diagnostic Centre, community hospitals and other organisations where contractual arrangements exist.
You will participate in providing radiation protection services to Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT and Radiopharmacy.
You will deliver a wide range of activities aiming to promote the safety of patients, the public and staff in all areas where ionising and non-ionising radiation are used. These include:
• Scientific and technical advice and supporting the Trust in all aspects of radiation safety and some imaging physics, including radiology equipment quality assurance and optimisation
• Radiation Protection Adviser & Radioactive Waste Adviser services, including auditing, radioactive waste management and contingency planning
• Medical Physics Expert support for Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology, including patient dose auditing and optimisation
• Scientific and technical support for non-ionising radiation including UV and ultrasound for clinical applications
We welcome your application if you are soon to complete the Scientist Training Programme or equivalent. If you are yet to achieve HCPC registration you will be appointed at the appropriate level.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the Quality Assurance programme for diagnostic radiography and non-ionising radiation equipment to ensure equipment is fit for purpose, in accordance with national guidelines and professionally recognised best practice.
• Keep abreast of the latest technical and scientific developments and new practices relating to Radiation Safety, Imaging Physics and associated fields.
• Assist in the development of new QA techniques.
• Assist in the commissioning and acceptance of new radiographic equipment.
• Through audit visits, audit reports and direct liaison at meetings and in person:• Assist the Medical Physics Experts (MPEs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IR(ME)R 2017.
• Assist the Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with IRR17, for example the production of radiation safety and shielding advice for facilities
• Assist the Radioactive Waste Advisers (RWAs) in advising the Trust on compliance with EPR 2016 and other relevant regulations.
• Work towards qualified expert status as an MPE / RPA / RWA / LPA as agreed with the head of service.
• Assist with the acceptance and consistency testing, as well as the calibration of radiation monitoring equipment.
• Collaborate in the routine review and development of departmental and wider policies and procedures.
• Provide training and supervision to junior members of staff and trainees working in Radiation Safety & Imaging Physics.
