An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic unit manager to join the dedicated team within cancer services an award winning chemotherapy day unit, the Lilac centre.
Due to a career progression a gap has come up for a unit manager. The unit delivers SACT too over 1000 patients a month and provides a holistic service including counselling , complementary therapies and a dedicated hair salon. The current operating hours are 8am -8pm Monday to Friday and bank holidays but will be gradually extended over time to accommodate clinics on Saturdays and Sundays. We are looking for people with an specialist experience in chemotherapy and cancer who have a flexible approach to work and who possess excellent interpersonal and organisation skills, to work alongside our medical oncology and haematology teams.
Therolewillpredominantlyinvolvemanagingdaytodayactivities,ensuringcompliancewiththeTrustobjectives, ACE behavioural standards, providing leadership, creating a positive environment to work in and ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained with the patient at the heart of everything we do. Excellent communication skills, a good knowledge of clinical standards and a range of skills including overseeing chemotherapyadministrationandthemanagementoftreatmentrelatedtoxicitiesareimportant.Theroleinvolves ensuring that patients receive holistic care, promoting awareness and education of oncology issues and supporting patients and their families during a critical time in their cancer care. The role will involve having good organisational skills to help care for patients receiving chemotherapy or other supportive treatments; workingalongsideourmedicaloncologyandhaematologyteams.

KEY DUTIES
· ActasunitmanagerfortheLilacCentreandensurebudgetarycontrol.
· EnsuretheLeadSystemicAnti-CancerTherapiesNurse/CancerOperationalManagerareregularlyupdated on oncology/ haematology activity.
· Tosupporttheunitsisterstosupervisejuniorstaffinthedeliveryofsafecompetentcare.
· TosupporttheDMwithdemandandcapacityplanning.
· Takeappropriateactiontoaddressanyissuesorrisk andsubsequentmanagementoftherisksystem.
· Promoteapatientfocusedmulti-disciplinaryapproachtoholisticcareincollaborationwithcarers,healthcare professionals and other AHPs.
· Ensureasafeandtimelydischarge/transferofpatients.
· Ensurethecorrectstructureisinplace andmanagetheprocessbywhichtreatmentsareprescribed bythe medical/nursing team, and that changes in patient condition are escalated appropriately in line with policy.

· ToworkincollaborationwiththeLeadSACTNurseto developprotocolsandpathwaystodevelopthe chemotherapy service in line with Quality Surveillance requirements and DH policy.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· MaintainProfessionalRegistration.
· SupporttheLeadSystemic Anti-CancerTherapiesNurseinprovidingacomprehensiveandcaringoncology service within the Trust.
· Assistinprovidingprofessionalsupportandadvicetoothernurses/professionals withintheTrustwhocare for cancer patients.
· Identify,maintain,andimproveuponthequalityofpatientcarethroughfacilitationofbestpractice.
· Assistandco-ordinateactivities,whichcontributetoachievinghighstandardsofpatientcare.
· Maintainaccuraterecordsandreportsandalwaysmaintainpatientconfidentiality.
· Actasaresourceofclinicalexpertknowledge,ensureallknowledgeisupdated.
· Agree,maintain,andmonitordepartmental/Truststandardsandstrategies.
· Providesupporttotheteamtodeliverspecialistadviceregardingchemotherapytreatmentsand complications to internal/external services.
· Ensurethatchemotherapypoliciesandguidelinesareadheredtoandthatallchemotherapytreatmentsare administered safely, including the safe custody and transportation of cytotoxic agents.
· TosetandauditclinicalstandardsincollaborationwiththeLeadSystemicAnti-CancerTherapies Nurse/Consultant.
· Tosupportthe team,workcloselywiththeclinicaltrialsteamandensureallstaff areuptodatewithnew trials and regimens.
· AdheretotheTrustpoliciesandprotocols.
· Toparticipateintherecruitment,orientation, development,andanyotherpersonalissuesrelatedtostaffasrequired.
· Optimumuseofresourcessothatstandardsofcareandsafetyarenotcompromised.

· AlongsidetheLeadSystemicAnti-CancerTherapiesNurse,ensure theunitcomplieswithstandardssetout in the National Quality Surveillance Programme for chemotherapy (formerly Cancer Peer Review).
· EnsuretheLeadSystemicAnti-CancerTherapiesNurse/CSSDirectorateManagerisupdatedon Oncology/Haematology activity within the Trust at least monthly.
· Ensureriskassessmentsandcontrolsareinplacetomaintainasafeworkingenvironmentandensureall incidents are reported appropriately.
· Developcompetencies(inselfandTruststaff)whichsafeguardpracticeandeffectivenessinrole.
· Maintainownprofessionalregistrationandmonitorprofessionalregistrationofstaff withinsphereofresponsibility.
· Ensurethemaintenanceofandcost-effectiveuseofallavailablestockwithinallocatedfinancialresources. Effective maintenance and storage of all equipment.
