What will you be doing?

Working within the Finance and Contracts team you will be supporting the Finance Managers with the financial and contractual administration of research programmes. Some of the key tasks of the role are:

Reviewing and approving contracts and contract variation documentation
Reviewing projects financial reconciliation statements and proceeding tasks associated with financial assurance
Releasing, monitoring and reprofiling project payments
Providing support and advice on financial processes and procedures

The Role
As a Finance Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Supporting the Business Facing Finance Director and Business Facing team. This is a key role within the business with a focus on increased controls around budgeting, forecasting and reporting.

The role
As a Finance Manager you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for the financial management of the Military Flying Training System (MFTS) contract, a key role within the business focused on increased controls around budgeting, forecasting and reporting.

Day to day, you'll be the link between finance and the operational delivery of the contract, ensuring that cost drivers from the operations are properly understood and communicated to the business. Key duties will include:

• Production of timely and technically accurate contract/site accounts, budgets, forecasts and strategic plans including variance analysis
• Business Partner with the operational teams holding them to account with their forecasts and budgets
• Establish, create and maintain appropriate processes to ensure effective financial and business controls
• Preparation of contract review presentations identifying future opportunities and risk
• Providing and managing any contractual financial information e.g. any finance information to be provided as part of contractual reporting to customer such as gain share submissions, PPC reporting, KPIs etc
• Line management and oversight of MFTS Management Accountant

This role is a full-time position and will be hybrid role with regular attendance at our Lakeside offices in Portsmouth, with occasional travel required to other offices/operational sites as required.

Essential experience of the Finance Manager:

• Demonstrable experience in a similar Finance Manager or leadership role
• Strong finance business partner experience, including ability to concisely present complex financial information
• Strong IT skills, in particular Excel to intermediate / advanced level
• Experienced in the use of Finance systems (e.g. SAP, Navision, IFS or similar)
• Long-term contract accounting experience (highly desirable)

Qualifications for the Finance Manager:

• Recognised Accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
• Degree level education (desirable)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC level security clearance for this role.
