The Transforming Care in Autism team aims to fulfil the remit of the national Transforming Care Programme in three inner London boroughs: Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. The team is focused in working with autistic adults who do not have a learning disability diagnosis; a population who have so far been poorly served by the Transforming Care implementation and who often fall between services.

The Transforming Care in Autism (TCA) service was developed to meet the needs of autistic individuals at risk of admission to, or within, mainstream mental health services.

The team approach is two-fold: 1 Increase capability of mainstream adult mental health services to work with autistic adults through teaching and training; and 2. Provide a crisis response for named service users at risk of admission, working with the treating mental health teams.
• To assist Practitioner Psychologists in the delivery of specialist applied psychology service in the Transforming Care Autism Service.
• To carry out individual assessments and interventions as required by the service, under the close clinical and professional supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
• To coordinate and deliver psychology groups when required.
• To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
• To work at appropriate levels of independence, following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager as required.

The neurodevelopmental pathway includes a wide range of services staffed by multi-disciplinary colleagues including psychiatrists, psychological
practitioners, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and nurses, supported by skilled administrative and managerial staff.

There is a commitment across the service to ongoing reflection and service development to ensure services are efficient and responsive. We have close links with Kings College and undertake research across the service, as well as offering support and teaching to their Masters and Doctorate courses.

KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
• To provide psychological assessments for clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care in the Adult Neurodevelopmental Pathway Services service under the close supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist including psychometric and neuropsychological assessments and treatment suitability assessments, in conjunction with multi-disciplinary colleagues.
• To participate as a team member in the delivery of individual psychological interventions for clients in Adult Neurodevelopmental Pathway Services including individual therapeutic work

Job Purpose:

- To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

- To assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in the National and Specialist CAMHS OCD, BDD & Related Disorders Service.

- To provide clinical assessments as required by the service, under the direct guidance, close clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.

- To work following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager.

We would like to invite applications for the post of Assistant Psychologist. These posts will be based at the Eating Disorders Day Service, Maudsley Hospital.


We are looking for enthusiastic people to be part of our well established and growing service. The successful applicants will be engaging, approachable, motivated, committed to personal and professional development, and able to engage with people with complex mental health difficulties. They will be organised, with good data entry and statistical skills.

You would receive supervision from a qualified psychologist. As a department, we have close links to the clinical psychology doctoral training programmes at the IOPPN and Salomon’s training centres, and frequently have clinical psychology trainees on placement.

The role will include delivering guided self-help, assisting with group interventions, and delivering some clinical work on an individual basis, under supervision. You will assist the Day Services team in running the weekly programme, offering meal support, and supporting patients with behavioural experiments. You will also be involved in delivering patient workshops and carer support groups. In addition, you will take a role in co-ordinating the departmental audit and contribute to data analysis and dissemination.

The Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) is internationally renowned for providing best practice, evidence-based care for adults with the full range of eating disorder difficulties. Outpatient treatments include guided self-help, group and individual interventions. We are the developers of MANTRA, now recommended as part of NICE 2017 guidelines for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, and of FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders).

Clinical and client care
• To provide support for service users in the EDU service under supervision.
• To provide patients with protocol-based psychological interventions, such as supported guided self-help.
• To support protocol-based group psychological interventions for service users and carers.
• To assist psychologists in the development of individual or group clinical materials or training materials.
• To assist the Day Care team with meal support with patients and supporting specific patients with 1:1 support via behavioural experiments.



Contributing to team or service clinical functioning
• To contribute to the effective working of the service by managing the outpatient audit databases and contributing to analysis/ dissemination where required.
• To act in a manner that supports a psychologically informed framework for the service.

Research and development
• To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects to inform the service and others in the development of Trust psychology and other services, training provision, and research activities.

• To participate in demonstrating work methods to newly recruited staff and to support their development of necessary skills.

• To receive regular clinical and professional supervision, in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
• To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
• To undertake personal training relevant to the post in agreement with the supervising psychologist and the manager.



Care or management of resources
• To take care of, and use carefully, the Trust’s equipment and physical resources.
• To be responsible for safe-keeping of databases and have copies of questionnaires ready.



Record-keeping and information governance
• To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by Trust policies and local procedures.
• Under the supervision of the team leader, to maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry.
• To maintain databases and enter data, and perform analyses and produce reports.



General
• To respond appropriately and professionally to emotionally distressing situations especially around meal times, weighing times, and holding professional and service boundaries. To support others involved in such situations.
• To work flexibly which may include offering some regular commitment to late shifts and early, within the overall Job Plan.
• To travel to other clinics and settings off the unit as appropriate and across the Trust when required.
• To be aware of risk relating to aggressive and challenging behaviour amongst the client group and follow trust policies relating to its management
