Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services (CWPS) invites applications for a replacement consultant cellular pathologist to join our forward-thinking and friendly teambased at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).

CWPS are a large pathology network in the Midlands, providing pathology services for UHCW, George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking a pathologist with sub-specialist interests in any of the following areas: haematolymphoid, thoracic, gastrointestinal pathology, urology, dermatopathology, or gynaecological pathology.

Participation in the autopsy service is welcomed but not essential.

Participation in research and teaching (at undergraduate and post graduate level) is encouraged and supported by protected sessions. University of Warwick’s Clinical Sciences Research Institute located on the UHCW site provides additional laboratory research facilities.

The department has full UKAS accreditation, is fully sub-specialised and benefits from extensive BMS led cut-up. CWPS is a global leader in digital pathology having adopted this technology and led its implementation into diagnostic practice. The appointee will provide a diagnostic consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Network and primary care. Histology reporting will be expected to be done digitally once the appointee has been trained and fully validated. Voice recognition training will also be provided as this is the preferred method of report entry.



The appointee will develop close collaborative links with clinicians working in their area of specialist expertise and work to develop services provided to patients in these areas to the highest standards including the adoption of best practice guidance, the development of diagnostic and treatment protocols and all other relevant guidelines.



The appointee will be encouraged to support reporting of any systemic cytology associated with their sub-specialty area(s) of interest. The post does not have a requirement for cervical screening cytology reporting.

The appointee will be required to interact with the clinicians and allied health professionals to provide pathological support and leadership required for the delivery of excellent services.

This is an RCOG recognized Gynecological Oncology subspeciality training programme leading to RCOG Gynaecological Oncology subspecialty accreditation.

The appointed candidate will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal, and risk management. This role involves working within team delivering tertiary-level surgical care to Gynaecological cancer patients. It requires a dedicated individual interested in gynaecological cancer and who will be immersed in complex surgery and all this entails. Pivotal to the role would be good communication skills to discuss in detail diagnosis, complex surgical issues, and subsequent managements. Strong background in general gynaecology required to provide good understanding of patient journey prior to cancer diagnosis and support patient throughout. The trainee must work well in a team and across other specialities. Surgical training will be available in both open and robotic surgery.

Active participation in weekly Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings to triage patients accordingly for local or specialist surgery is encouraged. Consultation of new and follow up patients in clinics supervised by Senior Colleagues and supported by Clinical Nurse Specialist will occur regularly. Identification and subsequent management of complex pre-operative issues will be encountered and experience gained in this area. Daily ward rounds/ pre-operative assessments will be shared amongst Clinical Fellows along with ample theatre sessions. Surgical training will be tailored according to the individual trainee’s ability but wide range of surgical training is available for both open and robotic surgery. There will be opportunity to provide emergency services which covers all the surgical specialities in the directorate (gynaecology, colorectal, urology & plastics).

Additional to training in gynaecological oncology, there will be opportunities to attend MDT & theatres of other specialities, as well as non-surgical specialities in the Christie to achieve sub specialty training.Research & audit within the role is encouraged and accommodated within the trainee rota.

The role requires a diligent and hard-working person with an enthusiasm for surgery and gynaecological oncology. We welcome individuals who will actively engage with the team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a 40 hours per week appointment (full time) at Specialty Registrar level, working in one of the country’s leading Gynaecological Oncology centres. It is expected that the successful candidate will play a key part in the team, as a clinical fellow but also concentrating on a particular area of service development. More focused surgical training can be tailored to the suitable candidate. There will be fully supervised and supported work in both ward and outpatient settings, oncological procedures in theatre, and research. The area of research may fall into: robotic surgery, introduction of HIPEC in ovarian cancer and psychosexual health following gynaecological surgery.

The post holder will support the Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons, work alongside Junior Doctors and liaise closely with Senior Medical colleagues and all grades and levels of AHP and management teams. The appointee’s professional time will be deployed flexibly in appropriate areas: clinical duties, administration, teaching, research, clinical audit etc. Detailed elements of the job plan arrangements are to be agreed with the successful applicant when in post.

The center wishes to build its current research portfolio and continue regional collaboration, publication and presentation and it is expected that the post-holder will actively participate in this.



In addition to Gynaecological Oncology work, the Christie team works closely with other surgical specialties at The Christie as part of a tertiary referral “Pelvic Surgery Team”. This team comprises 9 Colorectal, 7 Urological and 4 Oncoplastic Surgeons specialising in complex abdomino-pelvic malignancy. They undertake ultra-high volume complex pelvic and exenterative surgery for a population of >8 million people.

Role Planning

The following provides an outline of the expected clinical activity and clinically related activity components of the job plan which occur at regular times in the week. University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a Trainee Clinical Coder to join our team of talented and experienced clinical coders. This is a permanent, full-time position which includes on the job training to become a qualified clinical coder.

The successful applicant will become a member of the Cross Bay Clinical Coding Team within the Trust. Working in a dynamic, digitally enabled environment, they will work to clinically code activity across all 3 sites including Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Westmorland General Hospital. They will primarily be responsible for the timely and accurate coding of hospital activity but will also participate in mortality reviews, focused specialty training and improvement, mentoring of trainee coders and raising the profile of good quality clinically coded data within the organisation.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical and judgement skills, be proficient in the use of computers and technology and be able to autonomously manage their own workload. As part of the role, they will need to learn detailed medical terminology and human anatomy and have the ability to liaise with all levels of NHS staff. They must be willing to study for the Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) qualification within an agreed period of time. This consists of two parts, a Practical examination and a Theory examination. Coders who attain this qualification are then upgraded to Band 5.

Clinically coded data is used to record hospital activity for financial accountability purposes. Diseases and other health information can be extracted, measured and monitored in order to inform service planning and development, with the ultimate aim of improving the health and health care of the users of the Trust’s services.

Clinical Coders are responsible for the accurate and timely recording of clinical data to support the Trust’s clinical and business requirements and for regional and National Health Service statistics.

The post holder will be required to work as a member of a team to provide an efficient clinical coding service working to established systems and procedures.

They will screen medical records, discharge summaries and other data sources to extract clinical information relevant to a patient’s episode of care and turn this into structured diagnostic and procedure data using International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) and Office of the Population of Censuses and Surveys (OPCS 4) coding standards.

They will also communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians, nursing staff, other professionals and departments, both internal and external, across all specialties.

You will be expected to complete the British Orthopaedic Association Casting Course after a minimum of one year working in the plaster service. This is a developmental role and you will join the team as a trainee orthopaedic plaster technician. Following a minimum of one year working and learning within the plaster room you will be required to complete the British Casting Certificate (BCC). This certificate is validated by the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the Association of Orthopaedic Practitioners UK (AOP UK) and is supported by the Society of Orthopaedic and Trauma Nursing (SOTN) of the Royal College of Nursing. Once the qualification is completed successfully you will receive 60 credits either at Diploma Level 8 SCQF equivalent to Level 5 NQF, or Degree Level 9 SCQF equivalent to Level 6 NQF. The course/examination will be undertaken on a 5-week residential course held at Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital, London. Completion of the qualification will enable you to work in the plaster service as a Band 4 Junior Qualified Orthopaedic Plaster Technician and then progress into more senior roles as they become available.

The qualified Orthopaedic Plaster Technician is a vital member of the healthcare team providing a service not just in Orthopaedics and Trauma but also Trust-wide across many different specialties. In a similar way to Orthotists and Physiotherapists, they interpret prescriptions from a wider multidisciplinary team, being able to discuss issues of care with other relevant Healthcare Professionals.

We are recruiting High Intensity CBT trainees to join Croydon Talking Therapies. Postholders will spend three days a week in the service and over the other two days, they will undertake the PG Dip in CBT course at Royal Holloway University of London.
