The purpose of this role is to assist the finance team for an interim period in the run up to the possible merger in 2025 with another academy trust.
This role is part of a team of specialists supporting the budget management for schools and business units within the Trust. You will be required to utilise your skills to contribute to efficient and effective working practices, ensuring maximisation of funds available to support the delivery of education to our pupils.
Contributing to the long-term financial viability of the Trust, through strong and effective Financial Accounting, Financial Planning and Financial Management and Monitoring.
You will work as part of a team to deliver an excellent standard of customer service to the schools within the Trust. Maintaining the principles of value for money, regularity and propriety through effective compliance and governance, efficient working practices, identification and analysis of income and savings opportunities.
Experience in the delivery of budget setting and monthly management accounts, proven record of effective business support and the production of high-quality financial information is required. Whilst experience of education finance would be desirable, this is not essential. More importantly, you will be a self-starter, who is committed to continuous improvement with a desire to fully understand curriculum led cost drivers to help deliver value for money, whilst providing an excellent service to the leadership team within your schools and across the Trust.

The successful candidate will benefit from being part of the Trust wide IT Support Team, supported by senior engineers on the central team. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensuring that all jobs are logged and recorded on the IT helpdesk and that SLAs are adhered to. Ensuring all installed software is correctly licenced and installed centrally in line with the Trust SOP on deployment, working with the Central Team to test, package and deploy new applications. Maintaining local school servers and M365 environment on a day-to-day basis. Managing and maintaining user accounts across online platforms, in line with the Trust data and security policies. Responsibility for regular maintenance programmes, resolving failures in hardware and software and ensuring appropriate “housekeeping” tasks such as imaging and laptop returns are implemented daily. Responsibility for maintaining/updating the school’s IT assets and any associated equipment, including working with the school on a rolling refresh plan. North Star Academy Trust is a small multi-academy trust that was set up with the ambition to improve the SEND provision in the South West and provide as many young people as possible with a bespoke, specialist education that is tailored to each individual's needs. We currently consist of a primary school North Star 82°, a secondary North Star 240° and an outreach programme North Star Outreach, with plans to open a third school North Star 265° in 2024.
We are looking to appoint a Finance Administrator to join our Central team dealing with day-to-day finance duties and administration. The successful applicant will ideally have experience of working within a finance environment, the ability to work in a friendly and professional manner with strong planning, organisational and communication skills. This post will be based at our secondary school, North Star 240°, although it may involve work at the other schools in the Trust on occasion.
As Finance Administrator, you will:
• Process all purchase orders and invoices on our Finance System
• Ensure that transactions are processed promptly and in line with the Trusts financial policy
• Develop and maintain effective financial administration systems in order to provide an efficient support service to all budget holders within the Trust
• Maintain an efficient filing and record system
We are looking for someone with:
• A strong background in finance or administration
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Good planning and organising skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• The ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines
• Qualified at Grade C or above in GCSE Maths and English
• Excellent IT skills with proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook
You will be required to work 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per annum. Actual salary £20,643 - £22,100 per annum. This is a fixed term position with potential to become permanent.
