What skills and experience we're looking for

The Schools Finance Support Partner is responsible to the Strategic Finance Partner and responsible to produce schools financial and statistical reporting and supporting schools with the identification and management of financial risk. Working with the schools, they will ensure that the Trust operates good financial governance in line with the requirements of the Academies Financial Handbook published by the Education Funding Agency (EFA), the Trust Financial Scheme of Delegation.

Duties will include, but are not limited to;

• Obtain, analyse and evaluate accounting documentation, previous reports, data, etc. in order to ensure effective internal controls and compliance by the Trusts academies.
• Be responsible for, where the service is commissioned by the trust, the entry of financial transactions
• (orders, invoices etc) for the school.
• Provide reports in accordance with Trust timelines to the Strategic Finance Partners on areas including:

• Monthly management accounts for the school
• Performance against financial KPIs
• Internal Curriculum Financial Planning
• Financial Resource Management
• Benchmarking
• Compliance with Financial Internal Controls
• Risk management

This role is hybrid, remote with travel, if required, to a cluster of academies within the Northwest and Stoke areas when required and Head Office in Kidsgrove for training and team meetings so access to a vehicle and full driving licence will be required.

The Post

An experienced and professional Finance Officer is sought for this role in our centralised team, working across our Trust. The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the CFO in managing the day-to-day operations within the Finance Team and managing the duties undertaken by the Finance Assistant. The finance function is centralised, providing payroll and finance services to the three schools it serves.

The role is varied and requires someone who can manage their workload and the workload of the team effectively. They are responsible for ensuring that they and the team completes tasks accurately and within the deadlines set in order that the CFO can produce the monthly monitoring reports

The job role includes: bank reconciliations, VAT returns, daily and month end tasks, procurement and the Sixth Form Bursary. Candidates should have excellent communication and customer service skills; excellent organisation skills with an ability to use their initiative; excellent ICT skills and a high level of professionalism and ability to recognise and maintain confidentiality.

Experience of working within a school and PS Financials is desirable. AAT qualifications are desirable. Training will be provided and opportunities for professional examinations such as AAT are supported and encouraged.

The role of Trust IT Manager is a new position for our Trust, and with the support of our Director of Estates and IT Infrastructure, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and grow the Trust’s IT service. You will provide operational and strategic leadership of the IT function across the Trust, in order to support our pupils, students and staff. Your work will be pivotal in supporting us to achieve our vision of ensuring all our children experience educational excellence every day.

You may have an IT related degree or technical qualification, however this is not essential; what is more important is your extensive experience of working within the IT field, leading and managing an IT service and IT projects. Invictus Education Trust is looking to fill a vacancy and appoint a full time Finance Officer in its central finance team. The role will provide operational financial support including financial systems-based solutions in respect of the Trust’s schools. The post will be centrally located within the Trust’s finance team based at the Trust’s Headquarters at Kinver High School but you will be required to travel out during the week to your allocated Trust schools which are located in either the Borough of Dudley or South Staffordshire. You will be working under the direction of the Chief Finance Officer and working closing with the Trust's central Finance Team.

Finance Duties -The main duties and responsibilities will be to provide technical financial advice, support and guidance to the Trust’s Headteachers along with two other centralised Finance Officers and this will be in line with the Trust’s financial policy and procedures framework.

The tasks will range from supporting the Financial Administrator on site at each school, managing the financial transactions relating to the school activities via the Trust’s integrated financial information systems (such as PS Financials and uploading payments to the bank), and meeting with the Headteacher weekly.

You should have experience of working in a financial environment, preferably in an educational setting. You should apply if you are a good communicator, have the ability to organise, plan and prioritise, can work as part of a team, have a good excel skills and are AAT qualified or actively studying towards AAT (Association of Accounting Technician) or equivalent qualification in Finance/Business.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

• To take supportive/remedial action in respect of children with socially related, emotional/behavioural difficulties in school and those with special educational needs; and to provide advice and assistance for parents, carers and students in all matters related to exclusions from school.
• To prepare reports on attendance, including statistical analysis termly, annually, and ad hoc as required for the Trust Board and Local Governing Boards.
• To support the re-integration of students after long-term absence period or from alternative provision.
• To work with Headteachers/Principals and Heads of School to improve and secure high levels of attendance and facilitate best practice.
• To assess and verify attendance difficulties including developing parental relationships gaining knowledge and understanding of absences, identifying and providing assistance and advice to parents/guardians, and when necessary, involvement in court proceedings.
• To establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with teachers to support achievement and progress of students.
• To refer to child protection procedures and escalate cases to the safeguarding team, as appropriate.
• To invoke the legal process for absences/court proceedings and to provide training on legal proceedings for Attendance Leads in schools/UTC.
• To line manage attendance leads in schools/UTC to ensure that the Trust Attendance policy is being effectively implemented, this includes ensuring appropriate coding is used in registers and where appropriate Trust training is provided to ensure a consistent approach.
• To support the SENCO’s Trust wide to identify barriers of non-attenders and to support SENCo’s with implementing key strategies to improve the attendance of SEND students.

SAFEGUARDING

• To work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, PREVENT and our safeguarding and child protection policies.
• To work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary.

• To promote high standards in attendance, punctuality and appearance adhering to Staff Code of Conduct.

The Board of Trustees holds the CEO, executive team and academy leaders to account to successfully deliver against the Trust’s mission and strategic plan. Trustees also have overall responsibility for ensuring that Shaw Education Trust complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, that resources are managed prudently, and that governance is of the highest possible standard.

Trustees actively participate in Board discussions, providing robust challenge in a constructive manner, and work well with other Board members and the leadership team. They understand the strategic nature of the Board’s role and how this differs from the role of executive leaders.

It is likely that candidates will have had some senior experience as either executive or non- executive in a large organisation, although first time Non-Executives / Trustees are welcome to apply. Terms of the Appointment:

These roles are unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. There are 6 Board meetings held in person in the Midlands or Northwest and each member of the Board will to be a member of at least one sub-committee, (these meetings are currently held remotely). The total time commitment is expected to be approximately 8-10 days per year.

There will be additional induction and training commitments in the first year of term. The appointment is for an initial four-year term, which can be renewed at the discretion of the Board.
