• Responsible for creation/ approval / authorization (release) of technical solutions including justification reports for repairs / reworks and troubleshooting instructions and the identification, explanation, resolution and documentation of anomalies which will be delivered with the aircraft to the design office and the authorities (EASA, FAA or Transport Canada TC).

• Involved in all aircraft systems and structure (metallic/composite).

• Supports the FAL US from the delivery of A/C sections, via FAL process, flight line activities and up to the ferry flight in all Aircraft related items including the presentation in front of the customer, if needed.

• Responsible for the creation, validation, approval and monitoring of corrective actions (launch of new modifications, drawing updates, design query notes, improvements and avoidance of recurrent issues). 

• Responsible for the creation of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with airworthiness requirements. 

• Knowledge of internal processes and procedures. 

• Able to use manuals ( Aircraft Wiring list, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog) for research and verification. 

• Non-conformities (NC's) are written by the production/quality departments or Flight Test Engineers, if they detect any deviations/damages during the assembly process, inspection or production flights. 

• As part of the Liaison Engineering/MAP team, the incumbent will be responsible for specific tasks based on individual skills and experience including, but not limited to, onsite service, managing the cost center, establishing flight clearance prerequisites, training onsite employees in new aircraft design and production techniques, managing, creating and establishing improvements of onsite processes, perform MRB*** audits, etc. (*** Bombardier Aerospace Material Review Board (MRB)).

• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience to obtain delegation from the Design Office to perform engineering activities under MRB.

• Executes intermediate to complex engineering assignments requiring familiarity with several fields of engineering.

• Conducts research into various fields of engineering to investigate, re-evaluates and applies obtained results to solve practical problems.

• Identifies and reports on defects and deficiencies in work done by others. Prepares progress reports.

• Recommends changes in plans and specifications to suit special conditions.

• Provide necessary reporting for measurement system/jigs & tools project status within the FAL project team.

• Provide technical expertise within the team to ensure project success through best practice application and knowledge of Airbus processes.

• Evaluate, specify and manage the modification of existing measurement equipment for adaptation to customer needs.

• Fulfill as needed the role of Jigs & Tools Quality Engineer.

• Complete training necessary to receive and maintain Quality Authorization for Jigs & Tools Quality.

• Define Quality Assurance (QA) requirements in the technical specifications for Airbus custom tooling and equipment.

• Coordinate QA measures with jigs & tools suppliers and monitor their implementation.

• Participate in the pre-development phase in the creation of new production concepts.

• Definition of test characteristics.

• Comparison of new means of production with the requirements.

• Carry out tests at the manufacturer.

• Coordinating and conducting tests for the commissioning of production lines and assembly lines.

• Acceptance testing of small-jigs.

• Management of incoming tooling and organization of the receiving area.

• Support 3D measurements with laser trackers on production systems.

• Complaint/nonconformity management for the acceptance tests.

• Documentation of quality assurance activities results.

• Participation in supplier evaluation.

• Troubleshooting (determination of causes of error, initiation and verification of remedial measures).

• Is a technical expert to call for tender processes including contributing to creation of subcontract specifications and scope of work statements.

• Provide subcontract advice and counsel to program managers, engineering personnel, and other related functions such as finance, quality and contract administration.

Your boarding pass:

• Education: Degree in Metrology or a related technical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated experience developing and managing measurement systems.

• 5 years of experience with measurement systems in a manufacturing environment.

• Technical certifications preferred.

• OSHA certifications preferred.

• Data analysis and presentation skills – ability to technically explain tooling/equipment issues.

• Strong organization skills – able to oversee many ongoing topics.  Able to train others in these areas.

• Knowledge of Metrology basics, autonomy in reading technical drawings, the geometric characteristics and their symbols i.p. datum and surface definitions.

• Demonstrated knowledge in 3D and 6D measurement systems (e.g. Laser Tracker; 3D Scanner;…) and standard measurement software (e.g. Spatial Analyzer; Metrolog; PolyWorks;…).

• Able to develop, define and deploy complex measurement systems respecting metrological constraints and engineering requirements.

• Able to consult Engineering on defining the requirements (tolerances; datum; etc.) based on manufacturing requirements and capabilities and support manufacturing on practical problem solving linked to measurement systems.

• Able to transfer knowledge of the AIRBUS Business Processes (ABP) FU.IN.03.06 or equivalent to newcomers.

• Flexibility to quickly shift priorities based on the needs of the FAL.

• Capable to support/lead MFTs organized to solve complex technical issues.

• Capable of managing complex topics with many stakeholders.  Strong communication and leadership skills to facilitate resolution of urgent maintenance topics.

Your challenges:

Full-time Engineer responsible for developing solutions to a variety of complex engineering problems, requiring judgment and ingenuity within the Airbus A350 product line. General responsibilities include: A350 Lavatory module customization, new development support, qualification and certification, Continued Airworthiness, cabin installation definition, supplier/RSP management, etc.

• Provide technical and project oversight of Lavatory Module suppliers to ensure delivery of integrated engineering solutions meeting technical, weight, program, and schedule and cost targets.
• Create project specific deliverables including feasibility studies, integration plans, clash investigation and resolution, and creation of production documents.
• Analyze Customer Change Requests and Revise designs based on customer, manufacturing and/or design requirements.
• Define Preliminary Module Design for technical coordination with other functions (stress, flam, weights, etc) and determine technical repercussions after receiving Means of Compliance proposal documentation.
• Define Module Design for each customer’s initial aircraft by locating/identifying existing “known” solutions within the Airbus system and/or creating “Close to Known” versions of “known” solutions as applicable.
• Define/Validate Interfaces to the aircraft including development of customized modules installation requirements (including validation of both structural and system interfaces).  This activity includes accomplishing preliminary design review (PDR) with suppliers to verify supplier module requirements are validated against the contracted specification and to ensure equipment is consistent with all requirements.
• Hold/accomplish a critical design review (CDR) to finalize Version Module Specification for the suppliers of Modules including acceptance of test plans as required.
• Validate the Customized Module Design by ensuring clash/interference free integration of the module into the aircraft by checking the 3-D model of the module against the aircraft’s 3-D model.
• Release the Customized Module Design by creating and/or monitoring creation of module installation drawings that are then checked and released within the 3D model environment.
• As an on-going process of product improvement suggest modifications regarding the design and development of aircraft cabins and components.
• Provide input to the design engineering elements of the integrated project plan to ensure it is technically robust.

• Develop and manage program enablers and ensure their timely and high quality delivery into Airbus
• Develop solutions to handle complex/unique installations for which existing methods and procedures may not apply.

• Generate Technical Documentation such as Management Material & Technical Specifications, Standard Documents, Process Instructions, Engineering Baseline Descriptions, Technical Notes/Memos, etc.
• Guide and perform Verification and Validation (V&V), Qualification and Certification activities including release of the Declaration of Design Performance (DDP). Typically including review and acceptance of Qualification Test Reports in collaboration with relevant Engineering Specialists such as Flammability and Mass Properties.
• Support Continued Airworthiness activities: Investigations & Risk Analyses to In-Service Occurrences.
• Ensure that the design can be certified and all the necessary data for test and certification is produced.  Contribute to the Certification of Head of Version Aircraft.

• Provide engineering support for production and manufacturing at Supplier’s manufacturing facility, and resolve any engineering discrepancies during installation at the Final Assembly Line (FAL)
• Provide engineering support for end user customers’ in-service difficulties
• Analyze Customer Change Requests (CR) based on customer, manufacturing and/or design requirements.
• Represent the Company to customers and/ or suppliers on technical matters related to the assigned project or technical specialty.  Provide a clear communication link between the vendor(s) and the Airbus Engineering team.
• Be a strong liaison with other Airbus departments internally, externally and internationally.
