Evidence is required of basic literacy and numeracy at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the applicant to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.
Applicants must be familiar with child development and be able to respond to the needs of individual pupils. They should also have some prior, practical experience in the field of Additional Support Needs. Experience of providing pupil support in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy would also be beneficial. To be fully competent in the role successful applicants will be required to undertake additional training courses, once in post, eg: child protection, first aid, calm-training techniques.

Please note that it is Midlothian Councils policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale.
Based on 14 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £8,668.30 per annum.
