The role of an Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP)) is a shared initiative between the Department of Education and Department ofHealth and supports the governments priority to increase access of mental health and well-beingsupport for children and young people. The post holder will work within the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), which is part of the wider CAMH service, providing Whole School Approaches alongside Evidence Based Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training at Exeter University. The post will start with training at Exeter University which is likely to be a mix of face to face and online study. The successful post holder will be a trainee EMHP before becoming qualified as an EMHP at the end of the training and upon successful completion of the course, which usually takes around a year. The EMHP isa new professional role whichdeliversevidence-based early interventions for children and young peopleand parents/ carersin educational settings in England such as schools and colleges. This includes Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for mild to moderate presentations and a range of Whole School Approach interventions as outlined by Public Health England (PHE) and Health Education England (HEE) such as Auditing a School/ Colleges Mental Health provision, Consultation, Staff Training and facilitating Psychoeducational Groups. The post holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within EMHP curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills. Once the training is successfully completed, you would receive either a graduate or post graduate certificate from Exeter University (depending on your level of previous qualifications). The Wellbeing Team is an emotional wellbeing pathway which is part of Camden CAMHS Service. The Wellbeing Team provides evidence-based CBT and parenting interventions to children and families with mild to moderate mental health concerns via: Assessment and formulation of mild to moderate mental health concernsBrief, evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural TherapyGroup interventions for parents and young people including the Incredible Years Group 1:1 guided self-help parenting interventions Personalised individual parenting interventions The team includes 3 CWPs, 4 Trainee CWPs, a parenting practitioner, CBT Therapists, a supervisor and service lead. This intensive training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for parents and families using the core principles of the CYP Psychological Training Programme and consistent with the evidence base in parenting intervention including The Incredible Years Group Programme and Personalised Individual Parent Training (PIPT). The post-holder will work in the service, for at least 2.5 days of the week using the newly developed skills whilst attending the training programme or undertaking self-study days for the remaining days, as required by the education provider. The post holder will hold an appropriate training case load and complete the necessary assignments to meet the course requirements. Schools-based Work Be supervised, supported and assessed as a trainee then qualified EMHP to assess and deliver outcome focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. Develop skills in supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, and their parents/carers, families and educators in the self-management of presenting difficulties. Developing and practicing evidence-based skills under supervisory support of working in partnership with children, young people, their families and educators in the development of plans for the specific intervention and agreeing outcomes. Developing and learning the skills required in order to enable children and young people in education, and where appropriate parents/carers, to collaborate and coproduce their own agreed plan of care. Show evidence in a variety of forms that at all times assessment and intervention is provided from an inclusive values base, which recognises and respects diversity. Discuss with supervisors and agree to accept appropriate referrals for children and young people in educational settings, according to agreed local and national and local referral routes, processes and procedures. Under supervision, undertake accurate assessments of risk to self and others. Learn, understand, rationalise and adhere to the protocols within the educational service to which the postholder is attached. Engage along with more senior staff in the signposting of referrals for children and young people with more complex needs to the relevant service. Engage in robust managerial and clinical supervision, identifying the scope of practice of the individual postholder within the role, and working safely within that scope. Gain and practice a range of interventions related to provision of information and support for evidence based psychological treatments. Be supervised, supported and assessed to deliver a range of low intensity interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties in CYP; primarily guided self-help delivered to either YP directly or through their parent(s)/carer(s) but also group work and workshops. Practice, evidence, reflect on and demonstrate an ability to manage ones own caseload in conjunction with the requirements of the team and training course. Keep coherent records of all training and clinical activity in line with both health and education service protocols and use these records and outcome data to inform decision making. Complete all requirements relating to data collection. Show evidence of working within a collaborative approach, involving a range of relevant others when indicated. Specifically, work in collaboration with teachers and other educational staff, parents, children, young people and the wider community to enhance and broaden access to mental health services. Contribute to the development of individual or group clinical materials or training materials and go on to develop further such materials as falls within own degree of competence. Training & Supervision Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic and practice-based assessments and assignments to successfully complete the PG Diploma as part of becoming a fully qualified EMHP. As well as attendance at the University for training, fulfil private study requirements to enhance learning and prepare assignments for examination, for at least one day a week. Apply learning from the training program directly to practice through the course. Receive practice tutoring from educational and clinical providers in relation to course work to meet the required standards. Prepare and present case load information to supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and the governance obligations of the trainee, supervisor and service are delivered. Respond to and evidence the implementation of improved practice because of supervisor feedback. Engage in and respond to personal development supervision to improve competences and practice. Be involved in the evaluation of the course. Disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and supervisory discussions. Professional Ensure the maintenance of standards of own professional practice according to both the postholders employer and the Higher Education Institution in which they are enrolled. Ensure appropriate adherence to any new recommendations or guidelines set by the relevant departments. Ensure that confidentiality is always protected. Ensure that any risks or issues related to the safety and wellbeing of anyone the postholder comes into contact within the course of their professional duties are communicated and shared with appropriate parties in order to maintain individual safety and the public interest. Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with supervisor and senior colleagues on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development. Participate in individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives. Keep all records up to date in relation to Continuous Professional Development and the requirements of the post and ensure personal development plans maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments. Compass Bloom are an innovative Mental Health Support Team, supporting 85 schools across Central and West Lancashire. We are now recruiting Trainee EMHP posts who will join us and help deliver evidence-based, high-quality and responsive services. To help us meet the mental health and emotional wellbeing needs of children, young people and families (CYPF) in our partner education settings and local communities in Central & West Lancashire. Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners will be undertaking a year in supported part-time, study at Edge Hill University. Whilst developing skills and building confidence in mental health practice within our team and supporting schools to enhance the approach to emotional wellbeing in the school community. You will deliver short term low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed interventions for children and young people aged 5 -19 years with anxiety, low mood, common challenging behaviours, family and peer relationship difficulties, difficulty adjusting to change or managing emotions in educational settings.
